A story on the kindness of strangers during the holidays!
Okay so I have to share this story--cause it made me feel good about strangers and people who care this time of year.
I was leaving Chili's with my DH, sister, and mom last nite in Commack. As we are heading to the parking lot, my sister and I hear the distinct sound of a small kitten meowing loudly. We immediately follow the sound and come upon a very small black & white kitten by a mailbox--he seems very scared and obviously cold. When he sees us he immediately runs away. Unfortunately to our horror, he runs straight for a car that was idling in front of Sears. I thought he was gonna get hit by another car passing by--but instead he went straight under the SUV idling. But that wasn't enough for the little kitty...he ended up jumping INSDE the under carriage of the car.
Now the kitty is stuck inside the SUV's undercarriage and meowing away so pitifully!! We told the guy in the car there was a kitten stuck under the car and not to move. He got out and started looking under the car and we realized the cat was moving towards the front of the car where it was much hotter---so he turned off the engine.
For the next hour or so--myself and about 5 other people tried to get the little guy out of the car. Strangers who knew that he was just a little stray kitten, were laying on their backs in the cold, wet, and dirty parking lot under this car trying to lure the little guy out. He seemed very scared and his meows starting turning into little whimpers. We knew we had to get him out cause the guy who owned the car didn't want to move it until the kitten was out--so we couldn't wait for him to figure out how to get out on his own.
Finally after more than an hour---one of the guys under the SUV was able to reach the kitten and pull him out. To everyone's surprise the kitten was not biting or scratching but instead just shaking from cold and then began purring like crazy. 
I decided to take him home -- and my sister will more than likely be taking him from me at the end of this week. (I already have a cat and litter box at home and she didn't last nite.) It was just really nice to see people cared enough to do whatever it took to help out this little kitty.
And here is a few pics, we've nicknamed him "Motor"

Awww.. poor little guy. What a great story! It's people like you and the people who you were with last night that remind of what this time of year is all about.

omg he is the BIGGEST kneader! from the moment they got him out of the car--i was holding him against my chest under my jacket--he was kneading away and purring like crazy.
and when i cleaned him up at home last nite---he immediately wanted to come and sit on my chest---and was doing the same thing--and then laid on his back and let me rub his belly. he's a cutie !

omg melissa - that is sooo something that would happen to me! ...only i get attacked, bitten and scratched and end up going to the ER lol lol
how nice of you! i would have, as you know, done the SAME thing and it was so nice that you did. i think your sister is going to love having a kitty - i feel bad for you b/c you may get attached to him by the end of the week!  but at least you'll get to see him b/c he will be hers.
you should take him to a shelter/animal hospital that gives discounted vet care to rescued cats - we took a cat to one and they gave us a good discount on getting him fixed.
question - how did lucky handle having a new little friend in the apt??
good for you guys doing that!!!!
