they are 100% necessary
AND they MUST be hand written
And they must refer to the person AND the gift that was received.

Absolutely!

I think a personalized, handwritten note is mandatory, especially for a gift or if someone went out of their way to do something nice for you.

I agree totally!!! I think it's SO rude when a card isn't sent...

Re: A "thank you" card-How do u feel

I can tell you that when I have a big event, I use shutterfly and do picture of who the party was for with a thank you saying in it. with 3 kids, working, and running the house I don't have time to write individual cards, I wish I did, but I guess I figured I could either have them printed or no one would get one, and I don't think that is appropriate. I figure the addresses are handwritten, so the person knows I "meant well". I know I personally don;t care if I dont get a thank you, if I go to a shower I alwasy say, "don't worry about a thank you, you thanked me already, you have enough on your plate". But Deb I feel bad if your feelings are hurt, so I hope that TY comes on MondayChat Icon Chat Icon

Re: A "thank you" card-How do u feel

just a thought...

Did it ever occur to you that your thank you GOT LOST IN THE MAIL?

When i sent out my TY's i cannot tell you how many TY's got lost in the mail...

I am assuming that they lost a batch of them since i think it was about 15, that i found out that i had to rewrite! And those are just the ones i KNEW about.

Just a thought

And other than a wedding thank you...

I could careless wether it was personalized or not.

I personally HATE my handwritting so if i had the chance to do it again and could get TY's typed....i would love to. I really don't get why people get their panties all in a bunch over TY's and if they are hand written or not..

I mean come on...who really cares...You read it for about 2 second and that is it...

I say definitley hand written. I think if you thanked someone in person, a card is not necessary for smaller gifts or occasions. But, I think a thank you for a large gift or occasion is manatory.

Re: A "thank you" card-How do u feel

Still waiting for a Thank you from a friend who's shower was in sept of '05 and Wedding was in oct '05. Didn't get thank you's from either. I am probally would have never even noticed since we went to like 20 weddings/showers that summer but I remember b/c her bridesmaid make the thank yous, addressed the enevlopes, stamped them and even wrote the guests name on them for her all the bride had to do was more or less sign them. That IMO is pure laziness. Besides that fact that I didnt go to the shower and still sent 3 laundry baskets full of presents worth well over $300 bucks.

I have to same I with you on this!

For my baby shower and my e-party (didnt do the whole big wedding thing so no TY's to write out for that or a bridal shower) I did hand written thank you's

but for my sons christening AND his b-day- I had photo TY's made- with a personalized message that I wrote- but everyones card said the same thing...

As far as I knew- everyone liked receiveing the picture far more than the handwritten message-

I know for me- I could care less for them- I give the gift because I want to- saying TY when I hand it to them or when they open it is more than enough!

The only time I really care is if I send a gift in the mail. Atleast call to let me know it was received. I have lowered my thank-you standards, as it just leaves me feeling mad.

I couldn't agree more with you ladies. I did the handwritten thing for the showers and the wedding and frankly I think they are BORING...thank you for your generous gift, or thank you for the toaster oven we use it so often...blah, blah , blah......most often they all have basically the same thing written in different ways anyway. While I do think thank you's are necessary -when it comes to kids parties I would much rather get a picture of a child than a handwritten thank you. Same fro Christmas cardsChat Icon
