Re: AAA auto buying program?
We did it because we both hate to haggle. I think we got a decent deal on the car we bought, but we were looking at 3 different makes of cars and the experience with the salespeople at each dealership was very different.
You still need to go in knowing your stuff, your prices, etc. Two of the dealerships we went to seemed to give us decent prices. The third was a huge waste of time, IMO. I don't think you will get the deal of the century, but a decent price. I think in general, you only get to choose from what they have on the lot at the time you go.

I think the deal is supposed to be $1000 over (under maybe?) dealer invoice.

the prices vary by dealer and by vehicle- sometimes its as little as $100 over invoice sometimes its more- it depends on demand for the vehicles. But definately compare your pricing with other vehicles/dealers

We found that the different dealers used different formulas. One dealership, which seemed to be the most straightforward, had a set amount over invoice they charged. Another one had this complicated percentage method that seemed to me to make things confusing and didn't obviously show us what kind of deal we were getting.
OP, we went to a Honda, Toyota and a Subaru dealership. Feel free to FM me if you want more specific info....
