Aahh help! Quartz or Granite?

For kitchen counters.

I cannot decide and DH is no help... he tells me to get whatever I like (I know every woman's dream), BUT I can't decide!

Thought we wanted granite, but it seems like now every kitchen I see in a mag that I love is quartz.

Do you think quartz is just a trend right now? Will it be good for the next 15-20 years?

Is Quartz considered Corian? If so, I would not suggest for kitchen. I have in my bathroom, it's beautiful but I do not feel as durable as granite.

I'm not a big fan of granite but I think quartz is gorgeous. It has a more uniform look that (IMO) makes it a little sleeker and more minimalist, but to some people it doesn't look as "natural" as granite. Totally personal preference.

I believe that quartz is completely nonporous so it doesn't need to be sealed like granite.

I honestly have no idea what kitchen countertops will be made of in 15-20 years. Seems like there are lots of new materials lately.

Depends on the look you want. Personally I am a huge granite fan.

I personally like quartz. When it came time to choose between the two I didnt like anything I saw of Granite. They looked to veiny and my kitchen is too small. Quartz definitely has a more uniformed look and the upkeep on it was alot easier. Everything I kept hearing about Granite about chipping and having to seal it every so often kind of turned me off. Im really happy with what we went with and it looks great!!!

I have quartz.
I liked the color selection better, and also the look of it. I don't like the veiny look of granite.

I have no problems with it, wipes clean easily, doesn't scratch and it does not have to be sealed.
Mine is Cambria's Victoria.

We looked at both and chose granite. Our granite is not veiny at all - more chunky I guess you'd call it. Usually marble is veiny. Many granites are also quite a solid color (like absolute black). Our fabricator put a lifetime sealer on the granite and it's been over three years - not one problem.

We liked the randomness of the granite - the quartz was too consistent looking. I find the granite more interesting - every day I notice something I didn't see before.

I have both, and I like my quartz better.
Quartz is easier to clean, I can basically use anything.
There is no staining, its non porous etc.

I have granite in my bathroom and just prefer the quartz honestly.

But in the end it really depends on which pattern, color, etc you like better.

I wouldnt steer away from either honestly

ETA: I take pots off my gas stove and put them directly on my counter all the time with no issues.

I feel granite has a more uneven pattern than quartz.

But I read somewhere that you should not put food directly on quartz like on granite. I am not sure of the validity of this. Still researching if this is correct or not.

My Quartz Countertop is from Caesarstone. The Color we bought was Oyster.

Thanks for the pictures! I love both looks for different reasons. And that is the issue - we could make it look more modern or more traditional.

I guess part of my problem with granite is having to look for the perfect slabs... Haven't seen anything that is perfect. I guess it's good and bad that each slab is different. I tend to like smooth, creamy stones.

My ideal stone would be something that looked like boticcino (sp) marble

We are looking for an off-white, beige color. I feel like going with quartz is so much easier...no going to granite yards, making sure the slabs will fit, ect.

Do you think there is a difference for resale?

Both quartz and granite are beautiful choices. We are doing a lot more installations with quartz. People get too concerned about trends. Get what you LOVE and enjoy it. We had a client that put in LIME green quartz and loves it (see video on our website). It's all about personal taste.

I like Quartz. It has been around for a good while now, so I thinking it's here to stay. I like that quartz is antibacterial, it has no maitenance, has a consistent look, is harder than granite. You don't have to pick out a slab and right now not a lot of people have it. It also tends to me the same price for quartz as it is for granite.

However if you like the varied look - only granite can give that to you, that and marble or quartzite. If you want the maintenance and like having to worry about bacteria multiplying by the thousands then granite is for you.

I really am not a fan of the quartz. For me, the consistency and uniformity of it make it actually seem cheaper (kind of like corian). I think it is actually more expensive, but I don't think it is nearly as nice. I am also not a fan of the recycled glass look either.
