? about nursery/preschools
After reading pp's discussion about crazy lines to register for nursery or preschool it got me wondering...
1. My DS and DD will be 2 for next school year. When should I start to look into schools?
2. How much should I be expected to pay? I am looking for something that will be about 2 days a week for about 2 hours or so.
I am pretty clueless and so afraid of what it will cost to put them both in but I really want them to get the experience and interaction.

I would start thinking about schools in the January before the September they would start. So if they will start in Sept. 2009, then look in January 2009. MOST schools have open registration sometime in February. My son goes to St. Lukes in Farmingdale (he is in the 3 year old program). He goes MWF from 1:00-4:00 and it costs $182 a month. HTH!

Re: ? about nursery/preschools
It depends on where you are located and how popular the school is. The toddler program is $254 a month for 2 days at DD's nursery school. In my experience registration began much earlier than I expected so I would begin calling schools now to set up tours and inquire about availability. Also, if schools have morning and afternoon programs the mornings tend to fill up sooner so if you have a prefernece I would register early.
Lastly, be prepared that DC may not be ready to attend at 2. I played the whole "register early" game and left my deposit. DD ended up not being ready for a toddler program and I removed her at about 3 weeks in. It turned out she wasn't ready at 2 and I didn't want to force her. We tried a year later at 3 and she never looked back. She loved every minute b/c she was ready. Good Luck!!!

Re: ? about nursery/preschools
I was pretty late in the game with my research I started in March and enrolled DD in April (there was only 3 spots left). I took so long because up until the last minute I wasn't sure if I wanted to send DD to "school" so early (she made 2 in August). I'm so glad I did because she absolutely loves it and she has really been thriving. She goes 2 days for 2.5hrs/day. I found the nursery schools affliated with the local churches to be the most affordale. I pay $120/mth.

1. I had DS1 on a waiting list at his preschool since he was six months old, but this is a very popular preschool in my area. I'd start looking into them ASAP.
2. I pay $120 a month for DS2 to go to preschool two days a week for 2.5 hours. You may be able to get a sibling discount if you have both of them in the same school, you should ask about that.
