Accident in a leased car
I had a MINOR accident with our leased car this morning (we have a POD in our driveway and when I backed out, I scraped the front panel against it since the driveway was narrow between the POD and the snow).
We are going to get fixed in the next few days. It needs to be repainted and a dent removed.
When I turn the car in - will I be fined (the car will be repaired)? Not sure how this works. I did get into an accident in my previous leased car but, I ended up buying it out.
Thanks!

No it has nothing to do with the lease terms...

Re: Accident in a leased car
you should only get charged if they have to fix the damage. When we returned our lease they gave us the option of fixing the damage caused over the years we were leasing it or gave us a price quote on how much it would be for them to fix it.

Re: Accident in a leased car
Thanks - that's what I thought, DH thought otherwise.
I'm sure we'll be charged for minor scratches here and there but, this obvious eyesore will be repaired.
I wanted to cry after it happened because of my own stupidity.

Re: Accident in a leased car
as long as the car is fixed you will be fine. If you gave it back to them damaged then you would have to pay them!

Right.. wear and tear damage would be different...
every car ive had has been a lease and everyone of them has been in accident... ive never had to pay any extra other than if there was wear and tear!

Re: Accident in a leased car
If it's a reported accident then it goes on the car's history report. An accident would make the cars value go down at auction and you could possibly responsible for paying the difference bw what it would have been worth with no accidnet and what it was worth bc of the accident. If you have GAAP insurance that would cover it. I lease from Honda, and I have the GAAP insurance built into my payments. Good thing, I was in a hit & run not even 2 weeks after having the car.
However, something like what you are describing sounds so minor. I dont think you will have an issue.

I didn't report it (because I hit something stationary and didn't even realize I hit it) and since it's fairly minor, I'm not even going through insurance.
Would the autobody place report it?

I was in an accident in a leased car - I was rear ended on the parkway and the car had significant damage - the entire floor of the trunk was pushed in, the bumper had to be replaced, etc. It was all fixed and there were no problems when I turned the car in.

Auto shop should. Its how Car fax etc work. All work should be recorded by VIN. Its how you tract if its prior damage or not. But I am not sure this would affect your turn in. Only think I can think of is that if you had reported it, the check is cut to the bank and you.
We wrecked a leased car once (not our fault) but I can't say if it would affect the return since it was stolen before we could return it. The next lease we had damage but fixed it ourselves and also modded the car slightly. We removed all modifications and returned it after going through a 'return inspection' type place first. Got no charge on the contract at all for any repairs.
Bottom line, I think you're fine.

if the damage is fixed, then u wont have to pay for anything that was caused by the accident.

My DH crashed my previous leased car and almost totaled it, we fixed it and returned it no problem.

Re: Accident in a leased car
I might call the dealership where you bought it and see if they have a preferred body shop. This way if they give you any grief about how it was repaired you know you went with who they recommended.
