**NOT GOOD UPDATE*** RE: Car Accident and Never Put My New Insurance Card In My Car, HELP!!!
I cannot believe this. They are making me go to the TVB in Flushing Queens for my ticket when I do have insurance. I sent in proof attached to my not guilty plea! I just got a court date for December 10th. WHY, oh WHY are they going to waste tax payers $ and bring me in for this? Advise, AGAIN ladies? Should I call and speak to someone at DMV or don't bother?
Thanks
PS. Think I will have to pay a fine?
Hi, I teach in the city (Queens) and I was hit by another person while parking my car today by my school. When I was asked to take out all of my info I couldn't believe my eyes. I had my State Farms Insurance Card but it was an old card, expiring on October 8th and I never put the new one in my glove compartment(it as at home).
The police officer issued me a ticket for NOT having insurance and said to plead not guilty and mail it with a copy of my insurance card attached. She said she didn't know if they'd still require me to go to traffic court.
Does anyone know? I sooo hope not! A lesson to be learned...
Thanks for any and all info you may have:)

Ask your insurance company to fax or email you a proof of coverage letter for the day you were in the accident.
You'll bring it to court.

I dont think you have anything to worry about. Just do like the officer said, I doubt you'll have to go to court. I once drove without my license and the officer issued me a ticket but said if I mail in a copy of my drivers license along with the ticket they will dismiss it. I did just that and officially received a letter in the mail a few weeks later dismissing the ticket. Good luck!

i went thought this recently, without the accident part and all you have to do is as the officer said. Respond no guilty and mail in a copy of your updated insurance card.
they will mail you back saying the claim is dropped and you should be done with that.

This happened to me once. I just sent in a copy of the recent ins. card with the ticket, and there were no issues.

I work for a State Farm agent, we get these calls all the time.
You should contact your agent and request a proof of insurance letter for today's date. You mail that in with the ticket and you're done.
Sorry about the accident - and for future reference, if you have a smartphone, you can d/l the free statefarm app and pull up your ID card whenever you need to. Register on statefarm.com!

you dont go to court for this, unless of course you don't respond to the ticket in time then you are in trouble of not responding. if you don't have insurance, you have other issues. just mail it back in and take 1 thing at a time.
who did you get pulled over by, state, country or local cops?

It is such a PIA. You need a signed letter on your insurance company's letterhead stating you had insurance on the date in question. You will show this when you go to the court and all should be fine. Call your insurance company and they will know exactly what you need.

Re: **NOT GOOD UPDATE*** RE: Car Accident and Never Put My New Insurance Card In My Car, HELP!!!
Trust me! I got a ticket years ago on NSP for tinted windows (that had passed inspection!!!) and the Trooper told me to mail everything with the ticket that it had been fixed, blah blah blah.
And guess what, I got a letter that I had to go to court if I wanted to show the papers. They would not accept them by mail. BUT I could pay the $50 ticket.
I was so pi$$ed that I DID go to court. Spend 3 hours on this. But I was determined to NOT pay this ticket since I had been lied to by the cop. It was a matter of principles. Oh, and the judge rolled her eyes when she saw my ticket and my paperwork and dismissed it in the matter of 15 seconds.
There is no need to send papers to get out of the ticket. Apparently wasting tax payers' money is the only way to show you have the proper paperwork.
They just count on people not to go to court and pay the ticket.

Re: **NOT GOOD UPDATE*** RE: Car Accident and Never Put My New Insurance Card In My Car, HELP!!!
i served as a local prosecutor. if you don't have the letter stating you had insurance coverage on the date you were pulled over, we would not dismiss the ticket. however, it really depends on the court and the municipality's rules. some courts are stricter about certain kinds of tickets. it stinks that you have to go to court but as long as you have the letter, you *should* be in and out of there. there are certain tickets we didn't accept mail pleas for (particularly window tints). Sorry... good luck.

Thanks. I have the letter. When I sent in the not guilty plea I sent in a copy of insurance card (not the letter) (I got that the next day). I am so mad because MAYBE the letter would have gotten me out of the court date but the copy of insurance card didn't!!! Either way, its too late now, right? Should I BOTHER calling DMV?
Do you know how Queens NORTH traffic court is?
Thank you:)

Re: **NOT GOOD UPDATE*** RE: Car Accident and Never Put My New Insurance Card In My Car, HELP!!!
Hi!!!
First of all, unfortunately, the DMV in the City of New York, has changed their policy, and unfortunately just sending in the photo copy of your insurance isn't enough for them...
Soo.. You have to be inconvenienced to come to court... But it is no big deal, as long as you had insurance on the date of the accident and a letter to prove it. The "judge" will check it in the computer, the summons will be dismissed, you missed work, and the cop who shows up gets overtime...
There is NO FINE for you... I know this because, I might be that cop getting overtime!!!
Good Luck! Just get their early to get parking!!!

Hi Gina,
Thanks for your feedback:) It just stinks, especially because I am a NYC Teacher in Queens (Kindergarten) and I have to take a day off for this In any event, what exactly is the parking situation like since you said to get there early? Do I need quarters, etc? I am unfamiliar(I live on eastern LI and don't know much about Queens except getting to my school). You said to get their early, do you mean like 9:00 AM? I am told to be there for 10:30. If there is no parking, what does one do?
Thanks PS. I actually got this ticket when I was in an accident. A man hit my car right by my school and when they asked me for my insurance card it was the older one) I never put my new insurance card in my glove compartment, the old one had been up two weeks prior:)

I read in your previous posts that you have to go to Queens North Traffic Court... I usually go to the South, but either way, definitely bring quarters for the meters. I'm not too sure of the parking there, I'm sorry.
Also, I'll try to find out for you if you can go in earlier so you don't have to take the whole day off... I've seen people do this before. The reason why they gave you the 10:30 spot is probably b/c of the cop. We get notified every time a case comes up, and they work it around our schedule and the tour we work. For example, I work midnights and I have to be at traffic court for the first round at 8:30am after my tour..
I don't see why you can't show up earlier just to get it taken care of. I'll get back to you tomorrow with that info..
As far as getting the ticket since you were in the accident... We have to check, and unfortunately your suppose to have it.. But it used to be a much easier correctable summons that didn't require you to take a day off from work..

Re: **NOT GOOD UPDATE*** RE: Car Accident and Never Put My New Insurance Card In My Car, HELP!!!
I was pulled over and given a ticket for not having my updated insurance card in my car. I sent in my not guilty plea with a copy of my insurance. I got a letter stating I needed to appear at TVB in Hauppauge on a certain date. That "supposedly" they didn't receive my ticket back.
I went. I was one of the first to be called. I was done within 20 mins after showing a copy of my insurance and them looking up in their system whether I had insurance. I didn't have to pay anything. It was a pain to go there but luckily I was done quickly.
