Acid Reflux - sudden onset at 8 months?
I suppose it's possible to develop AR at any age right?
I'm starting to wonder if Max has it. His eating habits have changed for awhile now. He used to chug an 8oz bottle no problem but now 6oz is the most he'll do at once. And sometimes it's a battle trying to get him to eat more than 2 oz even though it's feeding time and he SHOULD be hungry.
He does the arching his back thing but it's always hard to tell if it's just because he wants out of where ever he is (crib, changing table, high chair) or because something is actually bothering him.
But the thing that's got me most concerned is that he is spitting up alot... and it's not really spitting up - it's more like vomiting. But again, it almost always happens when there could be another reason for it (he's jumping like a maniac in the jumperoo, or he's on his tummy trying really hard to crawl, has been rolling around, etc). He makes that gagging sound often too.
I would say he actually spits up about 2x a day and he makes that gagging noise like he is going to spit up at least 4 - 5 times a day.
He's a happy kid otherwise... I've heard that AR babies can be fussy, but Max is not.
I'm going to talk to the ped of course but I'm wondering if anyone else DC developed AR later on and if that's what this sounds like.

It does sound like AR, even if a mild case. If you are starting to introduce new foods, like fruits etc, it could be contributing to the reflux. My son was sensitive to fruits and certain vegetables. Ask your ped and see if you can detect if he is more sensitive when eating certain foods.

Re: Acid Reflux - sudden onset at 8 months?
Caden's reflux got worse at around 9 months due to the introduction of more foods....
We did notice the reflux in the very beginning with him but putting rice cereal in his bottles helped him tremendously and kept him pretty much symptom free until 9 months...
We just had to keep high acidic foods down to a minimum...

Re: Acid Reflux - sudden onset at 8 months?
hey lady!
not sure about the late onset BUT that does sound like AR to me - at least it matches Sophie's symptoms
She gags and coughs, sometimes to the point where she projectile vomits (happened twice yesterday). She doesnt ever simply "spit up" -- its usually half a bottle and ends up half way across the couch/bed/living room, etc. She also arches and wimpers during most bottles, and when she burps she cries like it hurts.
I would definitely contact your Ped, esp. considering his eating habits have changed

DD has reflux and many of the symptoms you described but she started having problems around 3 months old. It could also be food allergies. You may want to see a pediatric GI.

Re: Acid Reflux - sudden onset at 8 months?
OMG - thank you for posting!!!
DS is 8 mos, and had reflux at about 6 weeks was put on Zantac.
He was also switched to Nutramigen which was a godsend, and I soon after weaned him off the zantac.
Just RECENTLY has he started vomiting, gagging, and doing that swallow thing he did as a tiny infant when I knew he had reflux!!!!
I never thought that the fruit I was feeding him could be aggrivating it! (stupid mommy)!
What foods were you PP told to avoid?? Thanks in advance!!!!!!!!!!
