ACK! This is awful!
As if I didn't feel guilty enough about leaving my firm, for the last hour or so, every single attorney has come into my office with a shocked look on their face, asking WHY ARE YOU LEAVING?!  Some of these people aren't too bright 
I feel sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo bad

Well you can feel bad from your nice cushy new job that allows you space to breathe & take care of your family! Woo Hoo!
I know it's not fun to abandon ship but as you said it's a new firm. You loved your old firm but it no longer exists.

I was going to ask you if you were Jewish because that's exactly me! I have let go of a lot of the guilt. Great therapist if you need..

Definitely don't feel guilty. I've left companies, and have been at big companies where a lot of people have left. No matter how much they needed you, you will be forgotten. I'm not trying to be a downer, just that's the way things go. Out of sight, out of mind. No company ever shut down because one person left. Even CEOs/founders have been kicked out or left, and the company still runs. Enjoy the direction your life is going, and think about how happy your new coworkers will be by having you on-board.
