activity question: when your baby was 6 mo old...
what did you put them in so they could play?
DS can sit-up (leaning), but can't crawl or sit independently quite yet. he's also very tall.... so he has already outgrown exersaucers and most other toys along those lines, dispite him just approaching the age where he would enjoy them...
We're setting up a playpen for the near future (when he can sit unassisted)
What toys would you put in it? we have an activity table.
what activity items outside of the playpen? we inherited a jumperoo...
I want to encourage him to crawl and move about on his own....TIA!

My first thought on reading this was if you knew you can adjust the exersaucer to make it higher for tall babies? DD is 30" and still uses an exersaucer once in a while....
As for other stuff - DD had an actiivity table around that time - you can take the legs off of it, so its just flat on the floor.
The sing along stage (think thats the name) its a mirror with a microphone and it plays a variety of songs- was a big hit with DD and still is!
DD loved beach balls too and would crawl after them.
Have fun!

I just put DS on the floor with toys all around him to encourage him to move. He is sitting, crawling and tries to stand and is turning 7 months next Saturday!

what did he crawl after? I'd like to buy the toys that stimulate DS to move also... the playpen area should be set-up by next week
oh, and DS is already 30", and that's the max height for an exersaucer, so it would be a waste for us

DS likes chasing after this:
FP Crawl-Along Musical Ball
It makes wacky sounds, but it keeps DS moving. I should add that he skipped crawling. He butt scoots to chase after things

He crawls after anything. Mostly remotes and phones that are left on the floor LOL But here are some toys we have on the floor. circle rattle rattle basketball hoop and ball penguin baseball and bat cars and teethers like these

DS is doing the same things as your DS (or not doing them ). I still have him in the Jumperoo and he can spend hours in that thing!! He is probably close to the height limit, but he doesn't seem to be too bothered by it. I also have the doorway jumper and haven't really used it, but I think you can adjust the height so it might be ok for him.

Re: activity question: when your baby was 6 mo old...
wow, I have a lot of similar toys to that... that's good to know! thanks...
yeah, I knew from the get-go that DS wouldn't be ahead of most babies when it comes to physical development... after all, his parents are lazy too
he really hates tummy time... I don't think we do it often enough. he does like things like his activity table... but that doesn't encourage movement

Re: activity question: when your baby was 6 mo old...
If you really want him to crawl, tummy time is a huge precursor to doing it. He will need to be in a position to pull his knees up and use his upper body strength to pull him. He will arch his back and lift his bottom up as well.
Tummy time is also a huge precursor to unassisted sitting. Abby gets TONS of tummy time, she is on the cusp of crawling and can sit unassisted (with excellent posture I might add).

Re: activity question: when your baby was 6 mo old...
yeah, I've been pressing DH to do more tummy time with him.... I actually forced him to do it an hour ago
This is also why I'm setting up the playpen... I want him to be in a stimulating environment where he may not *realize* he's scooting aound on the floor on his belly or butt.

Re: activity question: when your baby was 6 mo old...
We had the pack and play mattress pad on the floor and he used to love his FP Superstar stage I think it was called. Plus I would give him toys to play with and put the Boppy behind him to hold him up steadier to a sitting postion.

I think I'll do a trial run with the boppy tonight... I'll see if I can get him to sit-up w/o the couch... and put some toys around him that he loves...

Re: activity question: when your baby was 6 mo old...
my ds is also 6 months and very tall. he can not sit up unassisted so it's hard. he loves his exersaucer. we put him in that in the AM . I still put him in his swing. otherwise we have to sit with him and play with whatever toy he wants to play with. I tried putting him in his crib w/ a bunch of toys but he is not interest bc he really doesn't like to lay down. How tall is your DS that he is too big for excersaucer? Mine is 29 inches and I have it on the highest level.
ETS DS also hates tummy time so we didnt do it. now he flips on his own , pulls himself onto his knees and pushes up on his hands, when he darn well feels like it. your DS will do it when he is good and ready

Re: activity question: when your baby was 6 mo old...
he's 30" already... so I won't buy and exersaucer... he'll outgrow them within a couple weeks
partially the problem is that he's sort of fickle (like mommy ) he gets bored playing with anything for longer than 10 min... the only thing he still loves is the swing (mercifully, he's thin, so he hasn't hit the weight limit yet)
I think part of his proprioception problem is his super-fast growth. just when he gets used to balancing himself one way he grows and has to learn it all over again....
