Oscar-winning actor Philip Seymour Hoffman was found dead of an apparent drug overdose inside a Greenwich Village home on Sunday, cops said.
Hoffman’s body was found by a friend at 11:30 a.m. Sunday morning in an apartment at 35 Bethune St., sources said.
Cops are at the scene and are investigating, sources said.
Hoffman has admittedly struggled with drug addiction in the past, and reportedly checked himself into rehab last year for heroin abuse.
Very sad

Drugs really do suck. It makes me so angry and sad to see good people, famous and every day people, lose everything they have to drugs. Very frustrating. I wish people would just learn already!

I'm very sad about this.
He was a very, very talented actor and I loved him in many of his movies. I was lucky to see him on Broadway in 'Death of a Salesman' a couple of years ago. He absolutely blew me away with his portrayal of Willy Loman. I remember sitting in the theatre at the end of the show having to regroup myself; my favorite play and a favorite actor in the lead, killing it onstage and breaking my heart as Loman.
A friend of mine is an actor and grew up with him; they were in many acting classes together and became lifelong friends. I've heard so many hilarious and awesome stories about him over the years.
Such a huge loss for the arts.

My brother saw him too in Death of a Salesman and I remember telling me how talented he was in it. Such a shame.

I saw him in Death of a Salesman, too, and felt exactly the same way... I can't wrap my mind around this. So, so sad. He was one of the best.

Law enforcement sources told NBC News that authorities at the scene found roughly 50 bags of heroin, numerous syringes, addiction treatment medication, blood pressure medication, and a muscle relaxant.
