Acura TSX and BMW 3 and 5 Series...Need opinions please!
With the cost of gas prices going in the direction they are, DH and I have abandoned our search for an SUV or crossover and are now looking at sedans.
I really like the BMW 525 and 328, as well as the Acura TSX. If anyone has any of these cars, feedback is appreciated. Specifically I'm looking for information on how they handle in bad weather, how roomy they are (can a carseat fit comfortably), and just an overall opinion.

I would go BMW because you get free full service maintenance for the first four years with all BMWs.
That adds up to a lot of cash. Plus BMWs hold their value well.

That adds up to a lot of cash. Plus BMWs hold their value well.

i have the acura tsx... love love love the way it rides, the look everything.. but I burn through a LOT of gas quickly...
my mom has the bmw 3 series and I think my car handles better in bad weather personally..

I didn't know that about the service. Does it apply to certified pre-owned as well?

Do you think we'd have an issue fitting a car seat in the back? Do you have to put premium in or is regular unleaded gas okay? Thanks!

Yes it applies to CPOs direct from BMW dealers.
That's why if I ever buy a used luxury car, i'll be going BMW.

I have a 3 series and I love it!
I live in California now, so I drive mostly on the highways and I get really great gas mileage!
I had a 5 series a few years back. I really like the 3 series though. It's smaller, but still VERY roomy. I can comfortably fit 3 adults in the back.
Honestly though... my mom recently bought the X3 and I am super jealous! I think that is a great car for a family with kids.

I have the 328i and enjoy the ride. It is very roomy for a sedan...definitely no problem with car seats. As for bad weather, I can only speak for rain and it has been reliable and safe.

LOVE the the 09 TSX! test drove it last Friday. I ended up buying a TL b/c I wanted a bigger car and a V6. the TSX has paddle shifters which is SO COOL!
with Acuras you get 4 yrs of free oil changes and free loaner cars for even maintenance service.
nothing against BMW, but I would not buy a German car and IMO, they are totally over priced.

the new TSX gets 21/30 MPG. and according to reviews on edmunds.com, some people are getting 35 MPG on the hwy

I love the style of the 3 series, but with a carseat I would probably lean towards the 5 series. I had a 2002 530i and loved everything about it. Currently I drive a 2006 X5 and love it even more that the 5 series which I didn't think was possible! To be honest with you my X5 gets the same gas millage if not better than my 530i. I am comparing the 2 older body styles though, so it may not be accurate with the new 5 series and X5. I do know that when the sports packages are added and the larger wheels are put on the car it drasticly impacts the handling in bad weather. My 530i was terrible in the snow but that is because we had the high profile tires. If you have the regular stock tires it handles quite well.
IMO BMW's are worth every single penny. No car/suv I have ever driven can even compare.

Food for thought.....isn't BMW rear wheel drive? 
For me that would be a deal breaker, or pay the extra $$$ for all wheel.....
Like 'em both, but LOVE the X5 even though you don't want that anymore.....

Thank you so much everyone. The input really helps a lot. We're going to do some more research and test drive the different ones we like. I've always wanted a BMW but the TSX caught my eye, too. Safety ratings are important as are mileage and reliability. Any other opinions are of course welcome.

The X5 comes with Xdrive, which is a AWD system that is amazing. The 5 series also can come with Xdrive if you would like a sedan with an awd system. I am not sure if Xdrive is an option for the 3 series because I had never "spec'd" it out.
