Adding a bathroom
Any idea of the cost to add a bathroom, basically from scratch? The space is already there (there is a small room directly above our first floor bathroom). So, I assume the plumbing will be easier than if it wasn't on top of the existing bathroom. Fixtures and decor would be VERY simple. We'd like to put in a tub, not a shower. Any thoughts? TIA!

Probably 7-10K if you are keeping it simple, including labor.

Re: Adding a bathroom
I would think upwards of about 10-12K. Remember, even though there is existant plumbing, your contractor is going to have to open up the ceiling (and probably walls too) to access it and plumb the upstairs bathroom. Then you need to consider the costs of closing up the walls and ceiling, re-sheet rocking, tape & spackle and repainting the entire room b/c the paint won't match if you just do that spot.
It maybe a fairly simple job, but there's still a considerable amount of work involved.

Re: Adding a bathroom
DH is handy and can probably do the job himself with his dad, but they're working on the kitchen this fall and I would like to have both projects going on at once. I wonder if I can get a contractor in to do the complicated parts and DH can do the sheetrock/flooring, etc. Thanks!
