Adding red wine to a soup
We don't really use wine with cooking, when we do it's with a fish or chicken dish and we use white wine. So I'm making a veggie soup (sort of like a ministrone) and I have 3 bottles of red wine, we really don't like red wine but my sister gave them to us. One is a South African wine, not sure what kind of red, and ther others are a merlot. Would adding a 1/2 or 1/4 cup of merlot to the soup be gross? It has beef stock in it, assorted veggies and I will be adding chickpeas and red kidney beans, and pasta.

Re: Adding red wine to a soup
I am late--you have probably already had your soup==but we always add a little bit of red wine to soups that have beef broth base.
