Advice on dog getting sick

DH and I have a 9 year old rescued American bulldog. We have had him since he was about 1. Anyway he has been throwing up about once a week on and off for a few months. The vet thought maybe he was allergic to his food so we changed it but it didn't help. He doesnt eat his food in the morning, usually throws up in the afternoon (bile and grass) and will then eat a lot for dinner. I'm going to take him to the vet BUT I wanted to get advice here first. He is TERRIFIED of the vet and needs to be sedated when he goes. Hence why I hate bringing him there. Other then throwing up he acts fine, he is very playful and energetic. DH is not worried but I am. Any ideas?

TIA

Re: Advice on dog getting sick

My dog has been throwing up since she was a puppy. Just like you, if she doesn't eat in the morning she would throw up bile in the afternoon, or if she doesn't eat dinner she would throw up in the middle of the night or morning, the vet keeps saying nothing is wrong with her, she just has a sensitive stomache, we went a few years with her only throwing up once every few months but lately she's been throwing up a lot more, at least once a week. She is almost 7. Other than her throwing up she is acting completely normal. It's almost always the yellow bile, sometimes it's her whole food if she hasn't ate in a while and gobbles it down fast.

Re: Advice on dog getting sick

I would try and get some food in him in the am. My dog will throw up if she has an empty belly. If he wont eat some dog food in the am try a treat.

Re: Advice on dog getting sick

Thank you! I feel better that it is more common than I thought. I will try and get him to eat in the am.
