Advice on the Florida to NY Drive!

Anyone know a good midway point to stop overnight? We are coming up to NY for the summerChat Icon and driving up with the pets. DH is interested in spending the night in Mrytle Beach, but he also said it is out of the way from I95 and I'm not that keen on going out of the way because of time and gas!

Any good midpoint not too far off of 95?

We really want to go to DC but not feasible with the pets!

Thanks!!

One year we stopped at South of the Border...the next year we just picked a random hotel about halfway through.

Re: Advice on the Florida to NY Drive!

my family always stopped in smithfield, nc....nothing fancy at all, but safe...motels, restaurants.

My mother drove with 7 of us and just always needed a plan. This was a good half way point for us.

Thanks ladies. I'm going to have to discuss with him.

Beth - I was thinking possibly Savannah, but Mapquest said it's only 6 hours from me in FL. I know we wanted to try and break it more evenly. Chat Icon

NY to NC we stopped in Richmond, VA for a 5 hour nap. It was exactly the halfway point if that helps you find your halfway point.

I love Savannah and I have heard good things about Williamsburg. Savannah isn't really a great point for a half way point but beautiful none the less and well worth it in my opinion.

We always stoped at South of The Border. We didn't sleep there but we'd stop for breakfast and just to relax for a bit.

We're doing the drive also... in June!

We always drive right through, no stopping. But if you have to stop i'd maybe choose VA so you get the long part of the trip over with.

Re: Advice on the Florida to NY Drive!

My DH and his family has done this trip so many times.
I will ask them where they stop.

DH and I have done it with the dog too and stayed in some pet friendly places.

I think NC/SC border is a good midway point, but if you did want to do Myrtle Beach, you could take US 1 and go on the Chesapeake Bay Bridge and Tunnel. If you have never done it - it's well worth the extra time. But make sure you get there when it's light out.

Ya us to. One year we got screwed with that.... It was spring break and every hotel we stopped at was full. We wound up sleepin in the car. Then at 4 am woke up to some guy screaming that he was going to kill his girlfriend.... We were awake Chat Icon

Florence NC is usually a good halfway point.

I have no problem with that, but since we have the pets, he wants to make sure that we have reservations at a pet-friendly hotel because the four of us will not be sleeping in the car together!

Looks like we're stopping in Fayetteville, NC - near Ft Bragg, which is just about the halfway point in hours - 10 from FL to there, 10 to Long Beach from there. Juney - I think it's near Florence.
