The Republican Party has removed a page from its website that praised former President Donald Trump's peace deal with the Taliban and bid to withdraw US forces from Afghanistan.
The webpage, which was first posted on the Republican National Committee's website during last year's presidential election, had hailed Trump's foreign policy achievements. An archived version of the page can be found here.
The internet-archive site Wayback Machine noted that the page was removed on August 15, as chaotic scenes emerged from Kabul of US forces evacuating officials from its embassy as Taliban militants seized back control of the country. ...

... PRESIDENT TRUMP HAS CONTINUED TO TAKE THE LEAD IN PEACE TALKS AS HE SIGNED A HISTORIC PEACE AGREEMENT WITH THE TALIBAN IN AFGHANISTAN, WHICH WOULD END AMERICA'S LONGEST WAR
On February 2, 2020, the Trump Administration signed a preliminary peace agreement with the Taliban that sets the stage to end America's longest war. Under the agreement, the U.S. will withdraw nearly 5,000 troops from the country in 135 days in exchange for a Taliban agreement to not allow Afghanistan to be used for transnational terrorism. Time Magazine reported that other components of the agreement included an agreement that U.S. counterterrorism forces stay in the country, permissions for the CIA to operate in Taliban-held areas, and details of how the Taliban's promises to reduce violence will be monitored and verified. The deal has been called the " best chance to end this conflict ," a " decisive move " towards peace, and " the best path " for the United States. The war in Afghanistan is the longest in U.S. history, a conflict that has killed more than 3,500 U.S. and NATO troops and cost U.S. taxpayers nearly 900 billion dollars. As part of the peace agreement, the Taliban and the Afghan government recently began historic peace, talks which would end decades of war that Afghanistan has consumed. The negotiations will cover the terms of a " permanent ceasefire, the rights of women and minorities, and the disarmament of the country's many militia groups ." ...

There is a reason why these politicians all promise to end it and bring our troops home and don’t. I would like to see all of our troops home and the insane money spent in other countries to stop. The reality is we spent billions training the Afghan people only to pull all out troops out and have them be over run in a matter of weeks.
Pulling all the troops like that is a disaster. And as previous posters said they now have all the equipment we left behind. We will now see the death of American troops rise because we are sending them back to fight a well armed army. That’s on Biden.
Wait so people are now mad that president followed through with what he said and now that’s a problem but if he didn’t follow through people would be ok with that and not hold it against him??
Not saying what he is did is right or wrong I haven’t followed this fully but I am sure it wasn’t some random decision.
Also didn’t Trump start some of this before he left. I read quickly that he came to an agreement to remove troops by May 2021.
I will also ask are we the only ones that have troops there?? If so why is that.
This is the BIG question.......it all falls on U.S.
I do have to say though.....why weren't Americans evacuated prior to pulling the troops out to begin with? Why are so many still stranded there and why the f would the President be on vacation when all of this shit went down? Fuckung stupidity.
Seriously….something major like this and they are on vacation?!?!

Trump is not the president anymore. Biden has reversed or attempted to reverse many of Trumps policies but this is the one he decided to keep?
In any case you just don't pull troops from a country that were there for 20 years, a country where terrorism is an imminent threat without withdrawal plan A, B, C & D, E & F if needed.
Biden has been in government for 50 years...this is like basic common sense 101. To top it off he goes on vacation, his press secretary is MIA and who knows where the VP is while Afghanistan is burning. That is gross incompetence.
I can't even imagine how all those people who helped us and had hope feel right now. The images coming out of Afghanistan is heartbreaking.
This administration is a full on disaster.

From various news sources, Biden has changed his vacation. He will be addressing the nation from the White House at about 3:45 today regarding the unrest and take over in Afghan.

My thought is that we have been there forever. It’s not on us to babysit. They have to step up. How many years, money, resources, and our troops can spend there while they don’t step up? Another 20 years and another 2 trillion?
Their own leaders fled. It’s a disgrace. I feel for the people but they have to fight.

Unfortunately there is a lot we shouldn’t be doing and have for many years.
This is not good all around and this is on the Biden Administration as while Trump was attacked for making deals, the Taliban was almost non existent and now who knows what will happen.

I agree with this BUT..the US was warned that this would happen. That is why you need to set up numerous plans to mitigate the risk. They failed horribly at that. And didn't this administration say that Afghanistan will not fall in just a matter of days yet that is exactly what happened. This was foreseen and nothing was done by this administration to help lessen or prevent this.
We have spent trillions of dollars, lost thousands of American soldiers to end up with this?? Taliban is now well equipped thanks to the US.
It's disgraceful. Right before 9/11 too...the entire reason we were there. Let's not pretend we're immune to another terrorist attack either. Horrible.

Oh gotcha so trump thought that the Taliban were really nice people and thought they should be brought into peace talks for them take over power. Makes complete sense.
Don’t know if this can be blamed All on Biden. When is enough? Why for all the years over there did we not eliminate the Taliban. Is the answer because it’s impossible to do so.
So what’s the solution to stay there forever? Maybe it’s time for another country to step up and send troops There for 20 years. Or if we are going to be constantly there we might as well take over their government and run everything.

This quote from Biden today resonated with me, even though the pictures and scenes coming out are haunting.
“American troops cannot and should not be fighting in a war and dying in a war that Afghan forces are not willing to fight for themselves."

Re: Afghanistan war: Biden says he does not regret troop withdrawal
Moving and theoretically true.
I don't think Americans are solely to blame for what is going on right now. The Afghan government abandoned their people and shame on them. They are a disgrace!
That said it doesn't and shouldn't excuse the fact that we, America, should have known and done better. It is our reputation, our resources, our citizens that will be affected by this choice. Biden, out of all people should have been prepared for the major fallout. He himself has been with this mission since the very beginning, including the 8 years he spent as the VP knowing first hand what goes into this. Not having a contingency plan, or plans, to deal with the fallout and mitigate the risk of removing our US troops is 100% on this current administration. In less than 10 days Afghanistan was taken over. Such a quick downfall proves that there was no effective measures in place.
We absolutely have to acknowledge that the situation would never be perfect or come with no risk. That's unrealistic and I do agree with him that eventually the dependency of the US in Afghanistan was exhausted, however you don't just pullout without a valid strategy to mitigate risk. I mean that's corporate 101. If that happened in my company we would all be fired no question so how do we not hold this administration accountable???

Exactly what I was thinking. Very scary, and sad to see the people trying to flee the country and climbing all over the US plane that was trying to leave Kabul.

Who didn’t expect this outcome?? Pretty sure everyone did maybe not so quickly but what does it matter if it happens in days versus weeks versus months
Everyone is upset I have yet to hear what the solution anyone things should have happened. Or is everyone just upset that Americans weren’t brought out fast enough? If that’s case I agree there.

Ok well it’s not my job to come up with the solution. And the ones whose job it was should be fired. We have Americans there. There are people waiting for a knock at the door to be killed.
And the fact that our president did this and went in ‘vacation’ is a joke

A complete joke. How do you execute something so huge where human lives are at stake then schedule vacation for the same exact time? WTFFFF. No Psaki or Harris either.
I mean I work for corporate America and no one including myself would do something like this during a big project and we don't have human lives at risk. SMDH shame on this administraiton
