AFLAC Sucks!!!!! I just found out....
So everyone at work told me to get AFLAC before I got pregnant so I would get paid by them too while on maternity leave. I signed up 10.1.07
The girl asked if I was pregnant yet and I said no. I told her this was the reason I was signing up. Anyway I decide to call the other day and find out what I get....which is $2000.00 a month for 6-8 weeks I would get 1 lump sum check 7-10 days after I filed the form. Then he said when are you due? I said 7.18.08 and he say Uh, oh....you cant give birth within the first 10 months of the effective policy date! This chick NEVER said that or I would have waited 2 weeks before trying! I conceived 10.24! I can't give birth til at least August 1st or later....I said what am I suppose to do cross my legs and hold him in 2 weeks! (he said there are no loop holes!)
So all this time I have been paying for nothing! And I was relying on that money since NYS disability is like $140/week....who can live on that?!!!

DH has AFLAC through work and it only covered me if something catastrophic happened to me (god forbid) while I was pregnant.
I hate to say it, but it probably said it in your paperwork

I have Aflac ST-Disability and I have to fill out all the stuff for it.

Cant they give you back the money you at least put in? I would try and speak with the rep that came to your job and tell her, that she miss informed you, and you need that cash.
My job has the aflac plan but pregnancy wasnt one of the plans they offered. i guess its a good thing they didnt, otherwise same would have happened to me when i was prego.

I know - I was denied Long Term Disability b/c I'm pregnant... meanwhile I wanted to sign up for it - not b/c of maternity leave - but b/c of the possibility of something else happening to me this year GFB. Since I'm taking a hit with maternity leave - I didn't want to leave anything else to chance before or after. I was told I can reapply after the baby is born, but I think it's all crazy. Insurance - all insurance - is such a scam at this point.

i was going to sign up for it until i read the fine print about pregnancy. i knew i was trying to get pregnant and i was not going to put that on hold so i didn't do it.
unfortunately it is written in the paperwork. sorry you're dealing with this!

That really stinks that they didn't make you aware. When I signed up for my policy I had a long conversation with the guy clarifying when I would be able to get pregnant to still qualify, we were planning ahead a little.

In the insurance business there is something called adverse selection and insurance providers ALWAYS avoid it. This prevents people from buying insurance after something has happened or is about to happen. An insurer also has the right to deny the issuance of a policy if they feel it is too risky. It is the way the business works. If it were to happen any other way, Insurance companies would not be in business at all. The elimination period on the pregnancy plan is 10 months. This is to prevent someone from taking advantage of an insurance company.

You are TOTALLY right. Good thing AFLAC was protected from those greedy pregnant women back in 2008. Poor AFLAC, such a victim.
