Afraid of the dark
Ever since we moved into our new house a year ago DS hasn't gone to sleep on his own in his own room. I just realized he is afraid of the dark. I don't know what to do. He goes to bed between 10:00 - 11:30 every night. I tried a night light but he wants nothing to do with it. I tried laying in his room with him with a DVD on and he ended up in my bed b/c I just don't have the energy to fight with him. With the twins coming in 4 months I need to get him back on track but I find it impossible. Any suggestions???

Re: Afraid of the dark
DS has a nightlight and that worked.
Is there any way to put him to bed before 10.30-11.30pm? He is probably exhausted and that probably doesn't help

I think at this late of a time...he is totally over tired and that makes falling alseep even harder and fears to seem even worse to an overtired child. I agree with the above, Id leave his door cracked with a nightlight in the hall so he can still see light from his bed. I think an earlier bedtime would be a huge help too...not to mention, when the twins come, your going to be exhausted if you have children still up at 11pm!

Re: Afraid of the dark
Believe me I've tried to get him down earlier. It's not easy.

Re: Afraid of the dark
Try putting him down just 15-20 minutes earlier one night and do that for a few nights, then another 15 minutes and so on--when I read your post I thought it sounds as if he's overtired too. It won't work magic right away, but if he won't sleep earlier, a slight shift might help over time.
He could just be afraid of the new room also--it might take him a little time to get used to it.
