After Bath ans Changing Diaper Questions
So when baby gets out of the bath you put lotion on them. After you change their diaper you clean them up then do you put anything on? I know I heard now they recommend no powder. But do you put anything at all?
Do I need anything besides soap and lotion??

Re: After Bath ans Changing Diaper Questions
I do not put something on DD every single diaper change but when I see her getting a little red then I use aquaphor and/or triple paste. I always put triple paste on her night time diaper since she sleeps anywhere from 10-12 hours at night and the wet/dirty diaper is up against her skin that entire time.

When do u use Vaseline?
With DD #1 the hospital used vaseline when she was born - I think i used vaseline for the first few weeks and then switched to aquaphor after that. I only started using the triple paste when DD was getting visibly red or had a diaper rash - triple paste is a miracle and works amazingly. The rash is always gone by the next day.

Re: After Bath ans Changing Diaper Questions
We didn't use lotion at all until after her shedding period as a newborn stopped. Now we use a special eczema lotion on the parts of her body that are effected. But not all over. As a nb, we used a&d lotion after every diaper change in that area only. We have never used powder at all. We just pat her dry well.

Re: After Bath ans Changing Diaper Questions
i never needed to use baby lotion. for the first 9m or so we used a&d every diaper change, and desitin only if she had diaper rash.
once she started crawling and sitting up on her own and being squirmy we stopped the a&d cause it would always just end up all over the changing pad!! so now we use nothing.

Re: After Bath ans Changing Diaper Questions
I lotion her after every bath, she get's a bath nightly. I use Mustela's baby lotion. I also use A&D every diaper change, and a bit more for her diaper right before she goes down. I use destin only if she's red.

Re: After Bath ans Changing Diaper Questions
When DD was a newborn we used vaseline on her diaper area after changing her diaper for about a month (i think), then switched to desitin which we used until she was potty trained. In terms of lotion for her skin, we didnt use much at first because the skin is so sensitive i was worried about the perfumes. So when we did need lotion we used aquaphor on her skin and it worked wonders. DD is 3 now and i still use Aquaphor when she has dry skin but mostly Mustela lotion.

Re: After Bath ans Changing Diaper Questions
I have never used lotion, vaseline or much of anything. If DS is looking red then I will use a little desitin and if he has an issue with his rash popping up on his face (was just when he was 6 weeks) I used aquaphor.
Did not have to use lotion on a regualr basis. DS is 5 months now and still really jsut bathe him and thats it. I also do not bathe more then a few times a week unless necessary because it drys out their skin.

Re: After Bath ans Changing Diaper Questions
I have so much to learn too! I just remember reading somewhere that powder wasnt recommended only I cant remember where I read it. I will google it.
I got mustela and cali baby products at my shower and was curious what everyone used after bath time and diaper changes especially.
Thank you everyone for the info.
When you say a & d lotion do you mean actual loion or a & d ointment?

Re: After Bath ans Changing Diaper Questions
My ped said powder is fine as long as they don't inhale it. It's not healthy foe them to inhale the fumes.
I still use vaseline after every diaper change

Re: After Bath ans Changing Diaper Questions
Lotion after baths in winter (when her skin is extra dry) or when she's cranky (because baby massage cures EVERYTHING lol). A&D after a super messy diaper and at night before bed. Cornstarch occasionally if she's red.
It's worked for us for 18 months!

It's actually the talc that's the problem. I think you're fine. I sprinkle a little cornstarch on DD when she's red, too.

This is what I did with DS ~ used Vaseline in the hospital and then switched to Aquaphor and Triple paste when a start of a rash was present ~ DS never got anything bad. I did not use lotion ~ I use Jojoba oil

I will follow the same with DD when she arrives!

It's the plain A&D that looks like vasaline. It's not a lotion or an ointment I don't think.

It varies, depends if my DS looks like he's getting a rash i use Desitin, If he looks fine i sometimes use vasaline, but most of the time i put baby powder on him.

Re: After Bath ans Changing Diaper Questions
I do A&D after each diaper change and lotion if needed. I found that the Mustella newborn foam shampoo really helped with cradle cap. I also love the smell!

Re: After Bath ans Changing Diaper Questions
In the hospital they give you petroleum jelly, but once we came home I would use Aquaphor which was great! Once I saw redness I would use Bourdeaux Butt Paste which got rid of the rash or redness within a day!

Re: After Bath ans Changing Diaper Questions
I never used lotion when DS was a baby. I will occasionally use it now if DS's skin seems dry. If he ever had a diaper rash or started to look a little red, I used Triple Paste. I tried a few other things first, but Triple Paste worked the best. I've also used Baby Aquaphor for slight rashes and when DS's hands have been irritated from the cold weather.

Re: After Bath ans Changing Diaper Questions
After baths I use either J&J Bedtime Lotion or Aquafor.
Every diaper change I use A+D on tush and cornstarch in between legs- only when hot out. For rash I use Butt Paste or Triple Paste or Desitin. However since switching to cloth, I use coconut oil.
