After school schedule with sports and dinner?
How do you work this out? When does Homework get done? How do you actually have a meal without getting take out?
I work until 5:00. Get home at 5:30. DH gets kids off the bus at 3:45. Football Practice is at 6:15, so we leave by 6:00 and it takes 15-20 minutes to get dressed for it.
So they have from 3:45 to 5:30 each day.
Would I feed them when they get home at 7:30? They normally go to bed by 8:30. Would they eat before? I don't want to be at the drive thur getting dinner 2 - 3 times a week because of football.

Re: After school schedule with sports and dinner?
I feel like the best time for the mto eat if they are going to football at around 6pm, is at around 5pm, even 4:45.
This way their bellies can settle before they are running around, but they will still food in them to be used for energy.
Can your DH feed them dinner at around 5pm? Maybe even at 4:45?
Even if it means that you have to pre-cook certain things and he is just re-heating? I know that my DH is not much of a cook!
Then when they get home from Football, they can have a healthy snack as "dessert" such as fruit and a string cheese or something along those lines!

Re: After school schedule with sports and dinner?
I was more thinking all of us eating together, so I never thought of them eating before so they get a good meal in them. Maybe I can do their homework left handed so it looks like they did it.
I kid I kid!!!
DH can do some cooking so maybe I will just have to plan it out and precook some stuff, or have it ready to go, since there is not any time for him to do it before they come home.

On the nights when they have football -- if you guys don't end up eating together for dinner --- maybe you can start a new tradition of your after-football snack being a bit more elaborate. That can be your family time together. Fun snacks that require assembly like making fruit dip and then having fruit kebobs, PB toast with berries on top, fun things like that.

My son has football 3 nights a week so he eats and gets homework done BEFORE football which is at 6 pm.. That way when we get home, it's baths and bed

I just hope they are not fighting me tooth and nail with this. I guess after a few days of it they will get used to it.
Hopefully they will be so tired they will want to go to bed right away, lol.

My DS is SOO tired after practice that he will fight me about taking a shower! lol I put him in there half asleep because it grosses me out lol
Yesterday (it was their first day at school), they took a nap when they got home AND they still went down to bed at 830! lol

Ditto. Well sorta, LOL. I have 2 and they each practice twice a week, but one day is the same so we go to football 3 times a week. I get them home at 4:30 and practice is at 5:45. We do homework and then they eat dinner (super quick and not necessarily healthy meals although I always include a salad )
Practice is over at 7:45 and showers are a MUST afterwards so in order to get them to bed at a decent time this schedule is the only way to make things work.
I eat dinner after they go to bed on these nights.

This is what we are going to be doing. Tomorrow will be our first night of this since practice was cancelled on Tuesday.

Re: After school schedule with sports and dinner?
Yesterday worked out, but I was home early which won't be a normal occurance. They didn't have homework, and then after they ate dinner super early and then practice was canceled, lol.
I just realized that one practice day as of right now is Friday, so there will be no issue there, they can stay later and we never eat at home on fridays.
We just have to deal with karate and football.
Thanks for the help, for some reason it all seems so simple but I was worrying about so I couldn't think clearly.
