Working out and dinner schedule??

I just started an 8 week bootcamp. It meets at 7PM. Unfortunatly, thats the same time I'm used to having dinner.

So now I'm in the situation of fitting in dinner and the gym. I hate waiting until after because I'm STARVING by 6:00. But on the other hand, I don't get home from work until 6.

I don't want to get sick but I don't want to be starving either.

I also want to stay within my daily points as well.

Any ideas how I can handle this? Also any food ideas as to what I can eat beforehand? It's hard to get in dinner, especially when I have to feed DH as well (and he's a picky eater).

I'm hoping maybe other ladies on here have been in similiar situations.

Thanks!

Re: Working out and dinner schedule??

I have the same routine, although I do work from home. Hubby works a 9-5, so dinner we always have together, and it's AFTER the gym.

Our workouts are from 6pm - 7pm, and I'll prep before going to the gym, and only have to finish off the food/pop it into the oven/stove as soon as we walk in. We end up eating dinner at 8pm, but we don't go to bed until Midnight.

I'll usually have lunch around 2:00/2:30 p.m. (breakfast is at 10:30 a.m.) and I'll have a snack between that 2:30 - 8pm time period - loads of celery/hummus, some popcorn, and other snacks, especially fruit or yogurt.

Re: Working out and dinner schedule??

I am often starving before my 8PM hot yoga class. Lately, I will just eat one or two clementines and that makes the hunger go away.

I usually prep dinner in advance for DH before I leave. I will make something light for me to have when I get home, or just eat cereal.

What time does your DH get home from work?

If I was you, I would have a small snack at 6:00 (I am usually good with a little cereal and milk - I know it sits well in my stomach and fills me up just enough) and then prep dinner. If your DH gets home before you, have him stick it in the oven and it will be ready for you right when you get home.

Prep anything you can before going to the gym and finish it up when you return, or is your DH home earlier and he can start dinner?

I sometimes go to spin at 7 and half 1/2 a clif bar or similar beforehand and it usually holds me over.

Re: Working out and dinner schedule??

I'm on a similar schedule as you are. I tend to have a few small snacks in the afternoon while at work or just after so I don't get too hungry & have energy to get through my workout. Things like fruit, yogurt, fiber bar, etc. Then we eat dinner when we get home from the gym (sometimes we don't eat until 9/9:30, so I make sure dinner is mostly vegetables & not too heavy). Some days it's difficult because I hate going to the gym on a full stomach but sometimes I'm so hungry when I get home from work! Then if I eat too much I have to delay my workout. Annoying problem.. I know how you feel!

Re: Working out and dinner schedule??

If it was me, I would not eat dinner on the days you have to go to the gym. Chat Icon I can't workout with a full stomach. I would eat a dinner-like meal for lunch on those days, have a late afternoon snack, and then eat something after the gym (a lighter lunch-like meal). Not sure f this is the right way to eat, but this is what I would do bc I will get sick working out after eating dinner.

Re: Working out and dinner schedule??

When I used to work out at night, I would have something light before my work out and then dinner after. My usual go-to's were:

WW smoothie
English muffin with PB
PB&J
Apple and PB
Yogurt with fruit

Re: Working out and dinner schedule??

Maybe it's just me but I have no problem eating before working out. I used to feel sick but then I somehow got used to it. I can have a full meal even before running.

I would eat beforehand but that's just me!

Re: Working out and dinner schedule??

Thanks everyone! I actually had a full meal before the gym today (spaghetti, chicken sausage and red sauce) and I was fine. Of course I didnt have work so I had time to prepare it!!

I think I'll try what you ladies are suggesting and have something small before and then just have dinner after. It's so hard to get on a new "eating" schedule!
