After you moved in to your home, how much money did you have left?
Between closing, and all the other little fees that add up, I just want to get an idea of what's average to have left over.

WE HAD A LOT OF MONEY BUT THAT WAS IN OUR WEDDING ACCOUNT SO WE CONSIDER IT $0 - WE HAD NOTHING - MY PARENTS PAID FOR OUR CLOSING COSTS

Re: After you moved in to your home, how much money did you have left?
i can't remember for sure! how bad is that! see how quickly it gets spent
i want to say somewhere between 10 and 15k
when we were figuring out our finances i remember saying that we had to have at least 10k in the bank after spending 20% for the downpayment and closing costs or else i wouldn't feel comfortable...
i wanted to have a little nest egg - you never know what repairs you might need, you never know what can happen with a job and i also wanted to have cash available if i really wanted something for the house right away...
10k adds up to a lot of mortgage payments for us though - if we were buying in NY i'd probably want a little more - just to cover a few months of mortgage...
but PLENTY of people do it and have very little left and are fine....i'm a worry wart, i would have liked to have 50k in the bank afterwards!

We closed on our house 4 months before our wedding. A month after closing, I lost my job. Not a fun time. Although we had more money in the bank then than we do now

Sounds like my dad! I grew up in areas covered in plastic due to renovations!

Re: After you moved in to your home, how much money did you have left?
My father said he had something like 37 dollars left in their account after my mom and him closed on their first home lol.
We'll have around 10 grand in savings but that's not touchable.
So, around 3 grand in regular checking.

15,000 in a CD that is not being touched!
With 3 kids who knows what can happen, we need to have it.

Re: After you moved in to your home, how much money did you have left?
More than 25K but that is becasue we are selling a house that we owe next to nothing on, are making a much smaller down payment than we could (we'll have a higher monthly mortgage) to put money towards our new house and wanted a good back up fund because while we both make great incomes...in this economy that could change any given moment.... I am still losing sleep at night over this home purchase though because I am a worrier!
