Whew. 3 is hard for us. Madison has SUCH an attitude...cries at the drop of a hat...(if I say no more tv, or simply say no for any reason she cries hysterically and throws a tantrum). Sometimes I'll say "hi Madison" and she'll say, "NO you DO NOT say hi Madison"...other times she says, "I'm going to be grumpy today" and she really, really means it.

It's not fun to be around her. Her mood swings are DRASTIC...sweet, happy little girl...to devil...in 5 seconds.

Anyone else?

3 has been MUCH harder for us! My friend told me that they call them the "Terrorist Threes".

My DD is over 3.5 and I think we are nearing the end. I can handle her mood swings and tantrums better now. She talked back to me today and I just looked at her and she apologized profusely. Chat Icon

We threw a baby brother in the mix and are dealing with issues from that adjustment but it is getting better!

ME ME!!!!

I have to admit, there is a part of me that takes great comfort in the fact that I am not the only mother whose child will shout "NO!!" when all I've done is say good morning/hello/hi....

But I will say - two was NOTHIN' compared to three!!!Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I always heard the "terrible twos", but isn't three supposed to be better? Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Age 3 - Do you find it harder or easier?

easier.

from birth to 8 mos old, he practically almost broke up my marriage.
from 18 mos-2, he was this crazy kid who hit and bit his friends.
at 2, he totally mellowed out.

I have an easy infant this time around...so 3 might be something completely different next time

3 has been REALLY tough. Its gotten a bit better in the past couple of months(she is 3 years 7 months) but still rough. Constant arguing with me and tanturms. NOT looking forward to this child as a teenagerChat Icon

I know...I swear, Maddie looks at me like she's already 13. We are SO in for it.

Re: Age 3 - Do you find it harder or easier?

3 has been a bit easier on us. He is able to communicate more, and reason a little bit more.

When he was two, I just brought home a new baby and his world was turned upside down. He was pretty much out of control on a daily basis.

Re: Age 3 - Do you find it harder or easier?

3 has been really hard. It's funny, the skills that make her such a joy at this age (her vocabulary, her independence, her expressions) also make her really tough sometimes.

The freshness, the fits ugh!

Re: Age 3 - Do you find it harder or easier?

I think it depends on their personalities. Cailen was always an "even" kid so he doesn't get mood swings - however, I find that he is already lying or keeping things from me to avoid getting in trouble - and it hurts that he is not being truthful to me. i want to be able to trust him but sometimes I already doubt if he is telling me the truth about things Chat Icon And it's not like we beat him or even explode on him, but he is very sensitive about how we feel about him so he will do anything to not make us angry. I hope he outgrows that and knows that we will always be ok if he tells the truth.

I was so scared to read this thread... I have a 2 1/2 y/o.

I'm taking the denial route and saying that 3 is worse b/c most of the people who ansered have girls and I have a boy so it will be different for me... Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

it's harder and easier in different ways. Attitude wise-harder!! lol but it's easier to reason with him, etc. I find the amount of temper tantrums decreased but the intensity/drama portion of it increased

My DD has been doing that since around the time she hit 2 1/2 (maybe a bit before then). I can only hope that when she reaches her 3rd birthday it will slow down or stop.

Re: Age 3 - Do you find it harder or easier?

DS got a bit easier at 3. I believe its all because he can communicate more now.
At 2, he was barely speaking and I was being yelled at because I didn't "get it".
The biggest thing now is "NO", but, he is very easily redirected, most of the time.

Now, My DD on the other hand...well, we'll see. She's 15 months and I'm already getting yelled at and eye rolls!Chat Icon

Re: Age 3 - Do you find it harder or easier?

A toss up - more different than easier or harder. DD#1 is very social, very independent and high spirited. 3 means for us - "I do it ALL BY MYSELF" - that is all I hear ALL DAY LONG, she wants to sweep, help with laundry, do the dishes, help cook - which is nice to a point - but much harder in other ways. She won't take help with anything. We have fewer temper tantrums for things that used to set her off - but she picked up some bad habits from older kids, which I guess they all do at some point, at the school and playground so we are trying to rid her of those.

I hear you about the drastic swings. She thrives on attention - so we have many days that she is a total delight all day long and I don't have to say no to her at all. Then several days where I say nothing but No, you are losing x, or whatever it is - non stop all day.

My fun one is that only SHE is allowed to sing - so whenever I try to sing to DD#2 or to DD#1 I get STOP - You don't sing - Kaitlyn sing - only I can sing. - Yeah fun timesChat Icon Chat Icon

The thing is when she wants to be good she can be amazing - but when she wants to be bad - watch outChat Icon Chat Icon

We have another month and a half before DS officially turns 3 but the closer he gets to it, the harder he gets.

Honestly, I remember my nephews and niece being nightmares when they were 3 but it did pass Chat Icon
