Age at Christening?

I am a bit conflicted about what to do about the Christening of our DD. Our church has the first Sunday, which is July 4th (not a problem for family) and the third Saturday, July 17th (a BIG problem for many family members). She will be 5w4d on the 4th of July and I am pretty sure I will not be allowed to have her around that many people (the party afterwards will be about 50 family members).

Did any of you have a Christening this early? WWYD?

Re: Age at Christening?

DD was passed around like a hot potato at her christening. There is no way I would have been comfortable with it at such a young age. DD was 3 months and I was uneasy about it.

DS was exactly 2 months at his christening

i would try to find a date in august that works

most kids are between 2-4 months for the christening - it is what you feel most comfortable doing because weveryone is going to want to hold and see the the baby

Re: Age at Christening?

We chose not to christen our DS but many friends/family have done it at 5 or 6 months old. Perhaps you can wait.... I would just to make sure you're comfortable with others holding her. There will be lots of that!

Re: Age at Christening?

Bella was 6 months old. She was born in September and we had a big family wedding that I was in he bridal party end of October/beginning of October. Then we didn't want to kill people around the holiday.

Also, my church only did them on the third Sunday of every month.

I would say it worked out perfectly. *If* I have a second....I would do it the same way.

Plus, I agree with a previous poster, she was passed around like a hot potato.

Re: Age at Christening?

DS #1 was 5wks and 1 day and DS #2 was 9 1/2 weeks - we waited due to Christmas and family flying in for Christmas we figured do the both together.

If you are concerned the baby is so young you can always wait to August. I was ok doing it at 5-6 weeks though

DD was almost 6 months when we did it. In fact, the last 5 or 6 christenings we've been to (we've had a lot over the past few months Chat Icon) all of the babies were about 6 or 7 months. The only one that wasn't is one that we have coming up next week (baby is 3 months).

I would be way too paranoid at such a young age to have so many people around the baby.

Re: Age at Christening?

My 2 older sons were baptized at 4 weeks and just shy of 4 weeks. Jason is being baptized this weekend and he is 7 weeks.

Why wouldnt you be allowed to have her around that many people? As long as they arent kissing her on the mouth or hands or sneezing in her face I dont see a problem with it.

My DD's christening was at 5 weeks. I don't recall anyone passing her around. As I remember, she slept for most of the party in her carrier anyway. If I were you I wouldn't do it on the 17th since it will be a problem--and really, what's the difference between five and seven weeks? I'd do it in August if you're worried (and in my personal preference I wouldn't want to attend a christening on July 4th).

Re: Age at Christening?

DS was 3 months old at his christening..actually almost 3 months. He was an oct. baby...between the holidays and new years and the winter, that was the earliest i could do it.

it was small..only one set of twins was baptized along with DS; and we only had immediate family at a restaurant. but he was still passed around and was fine.
