Ages 39 and older?
Hi all. I am brand new to this website, but I'm looking for information from the 39 and older crowd about your experiences at Long Island infertility clinics. I have been going to Manhattan for awhile to see a private RE and I have had two unsuccessful IUI's, several rounds of chlomid and HCG shots, and given my age and my condition (PCOS), I think i'm heading toward IVF treatment. My RE would like me to see her colleague, Dr. Fino, at NYU, but I'm concerned that I will miss too much work if I try to go back and forth to the city for IVF stuff. (I live and work in Melville). Sooooo, I'm wondering if anyone has had good/bad experiences and successful/unsuccessful pregnancies with doctors on Long Island. I have an appt for a consultation with Dr. Brenner at LI IVF on Tuesday to feel out the practice. My insurance is really good so I can pretty much go anywhere. Any help you can provide is greatly appreciated!

I'm only 30, but I have PCOS, and saw Dr. Brenner after switching from a different practice. After 4 iui's with him (3 of which worked, but two were m/c), and extensive testing that revealed I also have a clotting disorder, I'm 35 weeks pregnant. I couldn't love him more. He's down to earth, called me at all hours, and was compassionate.

Ages 39 and older?
I was 38 when I got pregnant. 39 when I had my twins. I stayed away from LI IVF because at my age they are a huge proponent of donor eggs, and I wasn't ready to take that step.

Dr Brenner here as well! HUGE fan of him and his bed side manner
I was 38 when i conceived my son.
I had 6 IUI's and 1 MC
and my DH is currently 41

Hi, I have actually used NYU and LI IVF. To be honest, I had a better experience with LI IVF than NYU. NYU misdiagnosed me, and triggered me with the wrong meds. I had OHSS and they triggered me with HCG anyway causing so much fluid and inflammation I was on bed rest for a week and unable to stand up straight.
LI IVF diagnosed me correctly very quickly and I got pregnant my first IVF cycle. Dr. Brenner did my retrieval. He's great.

I would have to agree with this. I saw Brenner for about 3 months, and he was very compassionate and helpful in dealing with my tubal rupture, but at the follow-up convo about IVF he pushed DE (at age 32, after only 2 failed transfers, when I had retrieved 11 embryos in the previous round, and 3 of them looked picture perfect). I found a new doctor.

I have heard that LI IVF does try to push donor eggs a lot. Also, about a year ago, Dr. Brenner was in charge of the donor egg dept. at LI IVF. I don't know if he is still in charge of it. SIRM in NY and RMA are supposed to be good for what they consider advanced maternal age ( usually over age 35). North Shore also seems to push donor eggs at times. Dr. Zapantis in Long Island is a good doctor who will encourage you to try using your own eggs first. You have to meet and consult with different doctors and choose the best fit for you. I 'm 40 and see Brenner. At the consult he did bring up donor egg. I think he talk about it like he talked about everything else. We haven't spoken about it since. I expect to start my first round of IVF in September. Our plan is to do two retrievals, and pgd testing.

Hi,I don't know if I would immediately mention donor eggs right away. I would not put the idea in their head before ivf with own eggs is even done. Ivf with own eggs is most likely covered by insurance. Most likely, he will bring up advanced maternal age first as well as maybe using donor eggs. Using donor eggs is really expensive and most insurances do not cover it. Maybe the sonos and blood draws when using donor eggs will be covered by insurance if they code it properly. Yet, the actual retrieval of donor eggs and transfer most likely will not be covered. Using donor eggs ( whether using fresh or frozen donor eggs ) most likely will be more money than an ivf with own eggs since another party is involved in the process. LI IVF has both fresh and frozen donor eggs. Frozen donor eggs are cheaper. Best of luck with your consultation and with everything.

I'm 40 going in 41 soon. Been doing IVF for about a year now. ( been in it for 2 years but froze embryos before ovarian surgery- only have I ovary- was not trying to get pregnant). At RMA now and my dr only mentioned donor eggs if I get tired of going through cycles. I told him I'm not ready for that and he was fine with it.
This will be my 4th IVF. Did 2 with RS of NY and switched to RMA - did a lot of testing found a thyroid issue and a uterine septum which RS missed. Did one and a half cycles with RMA - first only did retrieval. Eggs were too immature to fertilize. Second time only got one egg to blast transferred and did not get pregnant.
Doing a natural frozen embryo transfer this time so well see what happens.

I wouldn't even bring up donor eggs (DE) until you've tried IVF with your own eggs (especially if you have good insurance).
Don't let any doctor force that option until you've exhausted all options.

I agree with this, as well. Everything was donor eggs with him. It was always doom and gloom. I ran into several others along my journey who had the same experience with him.

I agree with the previous posters that you shouldn't rush into donor egg, even if they are pushing it, however the key words are "good insurance". Unfortunately, my DH and I had to pay for both our IVF's out of pocket and both didn't work (one MC). So we are exploring all of our options at this point. It really depends on what you can do, what you feel comfortable with mentally and financially. You both have to be in agreement as a couple. I am pushing 42. I am a patient at LI IVF. Hi all, I appreciate all your shared experiences. We went for the consumt this morning and the office ladies were super friendly. Dr. Brenner himself seemed nice. He was very direct and kinda business-like but that was ok with me. No mention of donor eggs at all. I'm not sure why he's different with different people. I was waiting for it to come up but it never did. My husband I are figuring out our next move. I really want to talk to my RE before going forward with anything. She gets back next week. I need to get my records from her also before starting any protocol. I think it's impt. for Brenner to review them before prescribing me anything or testing me for anything.But simply based on the convenient location of the office to my home and my job, I will most likely continue my journey there....hopefully things will work out and I wont have to be a patient there for very long!
