Parents of kids Ages 2 and older
How is the potty training going?
Is not over here
She has NO INTEREST at all
A few months ago - she would put the seat on the toilet, ask to be put on it - and sit there. She went a couple of times ( I think by fluke and I can count the # of times on one hand)
Now - no interest at all for the bathroom, unless I am in there
Any advice? Cause I have had it with the diapers

Re: Parenting of kids Ages 2 and older
We waited until they were 2 years 9 months since they were finally showing interest at that point.
We bought big boy underware, put them on every 15 mintues and figured that if it was a miserable failure we would go back to diapers. We never had to. There were several accidents but now they are 100% day trained and they will be 3 next week.
If she is not showing any interest I would either trying bribing with candy, LOL or just waiting until she is interested.

Re: Parenting of kids Ages 2 and older
G is 27 months old, and no interest whatsoever. She did both on the toilet about 6 months ago, and every once in awhile she's patronize me and sit on it but nope nothing.
She's going into a toddler bed tonight, so one thing at a time, but i'm going to try a reward chart with stickers and her fav candy.
Otherwise i'm not going to push it, i'll know she'll do when she's ready. I wasn't potty trained til i was almost 4

Re: Parents of kids Ages 2 and older
DS is exactly 2 years old and wanted a potty about a month ago. We brought it and he liked sitting on it but right now that he is all he wants to do with it.

DD is/was the same. We decided to wait until 2 yrs 9 months (preschool age) I heard that is the best age to start potty training.

Re: Parents of kids Ages 2 and older
DS showed an interest early on (around 18 months or so), I played along and tried to train him and he pushed away, so I just forgot about it. I trained him/he was fully trained by the week he turned exactly 3 years old!
DD was trained at 20 months. She was a breeze and I trained her in a week. I had no intentions in training her so early, but she came to me. she wanted to go potty like her brother and wear undies like him, so I waited until the last diaper was gone and we went out and bought her undies and she just took it so quickly and easily.
If she isn't interested in it, then I would just let it go for now and wait.

Re: Parents of kids Ages 2 and older
dd is going to be three next month. I decided to stay home for about 5 days in a row and just work on it non stop. So far so good! (today is day 4)
I think that the closer they are to 3 the easier it is. I also highly recommend the dvd "Potty power".

Re: Parents of kids Ages 2 and older
My daughter was completely trained at 26 months - what worked for her was peer pressure - all the other kids at daycare were older and using the potty - anyone in your child's life they would want to copy?

Re: Parents of kids Ages 2 and older
My son didn't really show interest until his brother came home. He was potty trained by the end of the week that his brother came home. We bribed a lot (skittles, m&ms, cookies) and jumped up and down and danced a lot when he went pee or poo on the potty. Once we started potty training, we did not put diapers on him, just underwear. We did put diapers on him at night for the first 2 nights but after that, no diapers at night either. He hasn't had an accident.
eta: my son was 32 mos old.

Re: Parents of kids Ages 2 and older
DS is 2.5 and has NO interest at all. I won't even try since I know this will just frustrate him and me.
He is showing an increased interest in the bathroom and the potty, and tells us when he poops, but I know that he is not ready yet.

Re: Parents of kids Ages 2 and older
DS is 27 months. He has been going pee on the potty for the last week and has made poo a few times. We tried underwear, but I am not ready for the acicdents (we just got new carpets - not the brightest idead). He's definitely interested, but I'm not sure if he knows before he goes, but definitely knows afterwards. I'm lost as to how to proceed.

Re: Parents of kids Ages 2 and older
I start potty training DS at around 2, i think, thinking he might be ready. He did okay every once in a while and then lost interest completely. He was finally fully potty trained about 2 months ago...he just started doing it on his own & I wasn't forcing him or pushing him to do it. He will be 4 in October so he was about 3 1/2 by the time he was fully using the potty!
I think the key is to let them do it on their own time & will, they know when they're ready & willing

agree..on all counts...if they are not ready it will just be a frustrating and long process...everyone's bladder matures at different ages and unless their bladder can hold the pee it will be a long and frustrating process...
Antonio is almost three and it and he is now potty trained it took about 2-3 weeks...
the dvd is great and very motivating (cheesy too)
I also got this great little book that came with his potty...by Johnson's and Johnson's ...it had the best and most realistic advice!
Good Luck

Re: Parents of kids Ages 2 and older
DS shows really no interest at all and he is almost 3 1/2. He's gone a few times and was successful but in general he does not want to. I've tried bribing - miserable failure. I've tried peer pressure - telling him everyone at school is potty trained and he is the only one in diapers. Didn't work - he said "That's okay mommy - I like wearing diapers." We have the potty books and potty dvds and big boy underwear - nothing works. It looks like I will just have to wait it out.

Julia is 100% potty trained, she has been since she was 2 1/2. She decided she didn't want to wear diapers anymore one night and ran to the bathroom and went on her own, never had any accidents and wears underwear to bed too!
I just hope Todd Jr will be this easy!! lol

Re: Parents of kids Ages 2 and older
DS was going pretty consistently when he first turned 2 and then completely lost interest and cried for his diaper. He wasn't ready again until he was almost 3. Things went smoothly the second time around.

DD is 2 years, 4 months. She loves to go on the potty, even when seh doesn't have to go. Although she doesn't initiate going to the potty on her own- and hasn't made #2 in the potty yet.

Noah is not interested in potty training and I am not going to push it, I am going to have him tell me when he is ready. I am in no rush, he will do it when he is ready!

Re: Parents of kids Ages 2 and older
DS will be 2 1/2 next month. I JUST introduced the potty yesterday, with plans to stay mostly indoors for a few days, for a hard-core introduction... So far.....
Yesterday was our first day. I left him naked on the bottom, gave him tons of water and juice so there would be lots of opportunities for "success", and plopped him on the potty, right in the living room, every 20 or 30 minutes. Because he peed so much from all the liquids, there were multiple successes but multiple accidents on the floor too. When there was "success" it was purely by chance because I had him on the potty so frequently, he was clearly not "catching" his urge to go and associating it with the potty. But I still rewarded him with tons of praise, high fives and M&Ms. It was all about the M&Ms!!!!!
I did put him in a diaper for his nap and bedtime, and it was right after his nap that he must have pooped, so there was no opportunity to try poop on the potty.
Today was actually a lot better. I still stayed home and kept him naked on the bottom, but did not give him any more liquids than usual. The difference today was, on 3 separate occasions, he announced "PEE PEE!!" and ran to the potty in the living room, sat down and peed. Yay, break out the M&Ms!! I was totally impressed because just as of yesterday, he seemed to have zero control/awareness of having the pee.
So overall I have high hopes that we will be fairly well trained for peepee in another couple weeks. Don't know how poop is going to work out though.

Re: Parents of kids Ages 2 and older
We have been working on it here.....since I have been home I put her on the potty consistently and she will do pee and poop no problem but she rarely initiates it. If I ask her she will say yes or no and is always right....but will not come to us and say she has to go.
I start back to work next week and we are no where near being ready to be off diapers.
