Re: Air Travel Question
If she's just going as a lap passenger, you can bring a car seat. If there is an empty seat by the window you can put the carseat in it. If there is no extra room on the plane, then they will stow the car seat for you. If you are going anywhere in a car after the plane, you'll need a carseat anyway.

Re: Air Travel Question
no. lap infant means no seat.
I don't think they would let you put the car seat in a seat you didn't pay for.

Re: Air Travel Question
No you don't need a car seat - you can bring one and gate check it in case there is an extra seat available and they let you use it - but I think that depends on the airline as to whether they allow that or not. But if they are a lap infant they must sit in your lap the whole time. You can't use an infant carrier (like a bjorn etc) on take off or landing either.

We have used our carseat quite a few times. What I try to do is book the aisle and the window, leaving the middle seat empty. When we check in I ask if that seat is still available, and if it is I bring the carseat on. Of course there have been times where the flight is fully booked and in that case I check the carseat at the gate.
ETA- we have done this on both Airtran and JetBlue.

Re: Air Travel Question
when we flew jet blue, we bought a seat for DD and used the car seat.
we were told that we had to pay for her seat, or hold her the whole flight.
of course, other airlines may be different.

Actually, we flew US Air this morning and since the plane was not full, they let us bring both boys' seats on even though we originally booked them as lap infants.

Re: Air Travel Question
We've flown jetblue 3x with DD and the first time the plane was empty so they let me take DD's carseat on and I had the whole row to myself. The last 2 times the flights were packed so she was on our laps. You'll gate check your car seat anyway so bring it and ask them if the plane is full when you check in.

see, when we used jet blue, we had to pay for DD's seat. but she was over 2, so IDK if that makes a difference.

I think 2 years old is the cutoff for lap infants. Last time we flew we booked one as a lap and bought one a seat.

Yep.. Just booked AJ for Dec and even if I WANTED to do a lap seat they said no. 2 is 2 means you gotta pay for a seat used or not. I am just hoping that having her near the window will give her room to lay out and sleep if she needs to. I'm not so sure I want to put her in a car seat for a 9hr flight.
