Re: Airport See-through Scanners
I'm for it if it decreases the line at security, but I think it's useless since I don't have much faith in the TSA employees. Plus I don't think it will make flying any safer overall. There are other ways to get explosives onboard a plane without flying.

Considering that the terroriats will stop at nothing to have a repeat of 9/11- I am all for this technology. Sorry but everone's privacy should go out the window to prevent this from happening again.
Right after 9/11 everyone was all for this type of technology- ANYTHING to keep us safe again. Well, technology has finally caught up, but we've grown complacent again, so people are complaining.
I was AMAZED at what got "accidently" through airport security over the past few years- 100% due to human error. This was stuff NOT reported on the news- stuff I saw with my own eyes while working as a flight attendant.
ITA w/everything you wrote. I saw 9/11 happen before my eyes, not on TV...in person. It was horrific and this does not bother me one bit.
Seems to me that the ACLU would rather a terrorist bring a explosive onto a plane, take control of said plane, ram it into a skyscraper and kill hundreds of people instead of having our civil liberties are be infringed upon. Brilliant. GUess we have "forgotten"

If this is oh-so necessary for our security, then why weren't they just randomly strip searching passengers, but hiding their faces? The end result is essentially the same, just less time consuming.
I honestly REALLY do not see the huge benefit from these.
I also don't believe they cannot save the images. You'd think they'd want to be able to save any potential evidence they find, right? So why design a system where you cannot save the image that led to your further search of a particular individual?
I can't imagine how this can be compared to strip searching.
first of all, you are not asked to remove your clothes which has a TOTALLY different MENTAL effect.
secondly, you are alone...there is NO intimidation factor in a woman or man in front of you.
I'd do a little dance in this room if they wanted me to.
ETA: additionally strip searches are often far more invasive than just standing naked in fron of someone.

a few years ago i lost my license while on a trip. i only discovered the license was missing when i arrived at the airport to return home. i had no other form of ID except for credit cards (which they did not ask to see). they let me through security and then performed a public "pat down" at the gate. i was SO thankfully that they allowed me to board the flight and return home but at the same time SHOCKED at how lenient they were.

Re: Airport See-through Scanners
seriously, IMO this is a major invasion of privacy.... and it won't make us any more secure.
why you ask? well, becuase the same human error that permits questionable materials to get through will now be staring at your naked body and blurred out head...
since the head is blurred, I bet anyone sneaking something in will have it in their mouths.
I've noticed a trend.... that security is becoming more and more invasive, and producing more and more ridiculous rules (ex. no nail clippers???) becuase the public equates inconvenience and invasion of privacy with feeling secure. They feel that by performing these silly new rituals that they are being proactive in protecting themselves and their country.
frankly, if we stopped all of this BS, and instead TRAINED PROFESSIONALS (not as they do now with random employees attending a series of brief classes) in a university, so they have a genuine degree, and then paid them a good salary as if they are genuine professionals, we would suddenly have genuine security WITHOUT the invasion of privacy. It's all about the human eyes and ears....
This is what is done in many other countries with supurb security (ex. Israel)....

Doesn't bother me. If it's going to help keep me and the people I love safe when traveling then bring it on!
