Albertson and East Meadow

In my search to find a location close to both of our jobs, I stumbled across Albertson in Nassau County. I have never heard of this town before. The house that I saw is in the Mineola school district. Any information about the school district and neighborhood is appreciated. Thanks!Chat Icon

Re: Albertson and East Meadow

Not sure how much help I can be but I work with a girl who lives & grew up in Albertson. I have been to her house a few times & it is a really nice area. She has great neighbors & they "look out for each other." (When I pulled up in my pick up one of her neighbors came out & asked if he could "help me" lol).
She went to private school though, so I don't know too much about the school district (except that Mineola has one of the best music programs in a public school).

Re: Albertson and East Meadow

Hollie, I live in East Meadow particularly in the Clearmeadow Estates (very small private area) which IMO is nicer than Barnum Woods, which is considered the nicer part of East Meadow ...let me know what you need to know!!

East Meadow school district is great (one of the best in Nassau) but teachers here are having a lot of problems (they are underpaid-fighting for contracts) and I know there may be changes if they do not resolve the issues...

I love my area!! It is quite and very very nice..the houses here are big (all split levels) and all are taken care of!!!!Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Albertson and East Meadow

Albertson is nice, but the mineola schools are just ok. I believe that the grammer schools and middle schools are good, but the high school is not the greatest. Most of the people that I knew in the Mineola district ended up going to private high schools.

There is a small portion of Albertson that in in the East Williston School district which is very good, but they would probably be in a higher price range. But the area itself is very nice and surronded by very nice areas as well.

Re: Albertson and East Meadow

Albertson is a nice area, but honestly, I think you would get more for your money in East Meadow. I don't think there is a huge difference in the school districts (mineola & E.M.)

There is a train station in Albertson, but it is on the Oyster Bay line, which is not a great branch of the LIRR from what I understand. East Meadow is not that close to the LIRR, but those I know that live there and take the train take it from Merrick or Bellmore.

I think it is all about location. Albertson is further west then East Meadow that is why the price difference per house size, etc.

I have heard nothing bad about Mineola schools or East Meadow schools.

Re: Albertson and East Meadow

I love Albertson. I love the quaintess, the older colonials and the towny feeling.

East Meadow is good too just a different feel. I think EM schools are better than Mineola schools..but check out the report card on Newsday.com

Hollie,

I would check out home#3...it is in a nice area..I pass by it everyday on my way to LIRR..I take the train from Bellmore...the other 2 houses look like they need a lot of work...especially #1...needs to be totally redone...and are in ok areas....Remember, East Meadow is very very big town...try to look in Barnum Woods section....

House #3 looks very clean and spacious....

There are few houses for sale by me but they are all over $500K with taxes around $10K a year...let me know if you are interested, will send you few links....

Re: Albertson and East Meadow

I spoke to a friend that lives in williston park and she said that both Mineola and Herricks are excellent schools. She says if you can buy a house in Herrick schools....That is the more desirable district, but they are both great schools

We have been looking in EM, and I actually like the neighborhoods that house #1 and #2 are in better than #3 - we looked at a house on Cypress and I didn't really love the street. Also, it looks like that particular house is right off of Newbridge Rd, and I think you would get a lot of traffic, since it seems like the main entrance into that development.

Good luck with the open house!

1 is in the McVey section which is a nice little community but the house needs alot of work. 2 is right on the border of barnum woods, great area! 3 looks like its a great house but if you want a basement, i dont think any of the houses in that area have one.

my parents live in barnum woods and i grew up there and love it! let me know if you have any questions! have fun looking!!!

I don't know much about the areas you're looking, but beware when a house is listed as very good, good, etc. It usually means the house needs a lot of updating.

I don't know anything about East Meadow.

DH and I looked at houses in Albertson, and we really liked the area. Try looking at homes in the Herricks SD, they are rated better than Mineola.

We decided against it since we both commute into the city and the train line sucks! We really didn't want to deal with driving to a station, paying a parking fee, and finding spaces every day.

in my experience, east meadow is great. The area is safe, the houses are nice, it is near all stores, parkways, ect. and I have heard all good things about the school.

I never heard of albertson until a few weeks ago actually so i have no idea.
