honestly, she may just BE all of the things he said.
none of you know what is going on or what kind of kid this girl is. maybe he is seeing his daughter turn into the future Paris Hilton...and wants to put a stop to it. maybe she pushed him too far. some kids do that, you know.
this has been a disgusting divorce from the beginning, and I think it's DISGUSTING that Kim Basinger released this to the public.
After listening to the whole thing at home I have to say that even though I think some of the things were completely uncalled for, that I know I would be upset if I felt my 11 year old had no respect for me.
I truly think that Kim Basinger has taught her daughter how to push her fathers buttons. I think both parents need to remember that no matter how much they despise each other they are both Ireland's parents. I can only imagine how this child feels after years of hearing the crap that has gone on between her parents.

I totally understand his anger, but I can't excuse that he unleashed it the way he did, by threatening her ("coming to LA to straighten you out"), demeaning her mother, and then belittling her (calling her a "vile pig"). Basinger sounds not much better by releasing this to the press (if that's what happened).
I'm guessing she won't answer the phone the next time he calls either.

I love how it was leaked out the day he is due to fly to CA though....and really why does the whole world need to know about this? Sorry but I think Kim & her lawyers are worse people for making her daughter the center of a PR campaign against Alec

I have to agree here. I could hear the anger, frustration, and even hurt in his voice. People lose it sometimes. But he is not excused from calling his own child some really negative names, and I shudder to think how he would have lit into her once face to face.
Someone posted "maybe she IS all of those things he said."  Could be. But if she is, it's because the apple apparently doesn't fall far from the tree(s).

I kind of agree. I mean, he was wrong and he should NOT have called his daughter a pig - that was crossing the line and uncalled for - but to me I really hear how hurt he is. It's clear to me that his daughter ignores his calls and her mom does not insist that she at least respect her father. Granted, my father would have handled that much better (it would have been a 2 hour speech on respect, heavy on the guilt) -- but my mom would have been much worse. Maybe that's why I'm a little desensitized to it.
And for her mother to leak it to the press - honestly that's no better. Now not only has her daughter been berated by her father, now she gets to be embarrased in front of the whole country. She's using her daughter to vilify her ex-husband.
I agree...I think it's worse that this poor little girl now has to deal with the whole world knowing what her father said to her.

I posted that. And i don't buy that "apple" bit. Parents in this day and age are actually looked down upon for disciplining their children.
yes, he lost his $hit a little bit. But, it seems his 12-year-old daughter has MANY TIMES OVER disrespected him and treated him badly.
she has a cell phone, knows what time he's calling, and doesn't care or respect her father enough to leave it on.
respect is and was SACRED in my house. I would have had my AZZ handed to me on a platter. I no doubt would have gotten a beat down for that. and if he IS flying to Cali to throw her one, let him. he's her father. maybe a few azz whippings on Paris or Lindsey or any of these other little coked out sluts would have set them on a better course.
respect goes both ways, and if she doesn't give it to her father...she eventually may not get it from him.
this may sound harsh, but hey, I come from a place where you didn't treat your parents like $hit and expect no repercusions for it.

OMG...if my husband spoke to my daughter at the age of 11 in that way I would bar him from seeing her. Seriously that is no way to speak to your child...she is a child..she is only 11...it doesnt matter if she didnt pick up his call, so call her and tell her how upset and annoyed you are but the tone of his voice and the language he used are uncalled for. He is a narcisstic person..I could say pig but that would only be bringing it down to his level.
I dont think the tape should have been released but maybe kim B. felt she had to in order to show the world / judge what an azzhole her ex husband is.
He is slime ball and should be hauled over the coals for speaking to his daughter like this.
He is the parent, she is the child. Even if she is a brat she did not deserve this.
Thank goodness he only has one child.

I think that if a child does something wrong...then its the parents right to yell at the child and let them know that they screwed up.

I don't care how upset or hurt he was by what his daughter did, you do NOT (IMO) use profanities not only towards a woman, but especially not towards a CHILD. And to call her a "rude little pig" is totally disgusting and uncalled for.
If he wants her to respect him, he should teach by example. And right now, his example SUX. My dad's way of teaching us to respect him was to hit us with a belt and scream in our faces. Well, guess what? It didn't work. I hated my father growing up. Things are different now thank God - age has mellowed him and you'd never know he was the mean ba$tard that he was.
Alec Baldwin is a pathetic excuse for a parent.......

I don't think you sound harsh at all. I hear from you a genuine concern that children should respect their parents, and I totally agree with that. Somehow I get the picture that your father was a better example than Alec Baldwin. It's his daughter and he can discipline her any way he wants. But I seriously doubt the name calling and threats are going to evoke the respect he's looking for. And now that someone has released it all across America (not his fault of course), and she is quite possibly experiencing extreme humiliation now, that respect is going to be even slower to come.

I don't care WHAT this kid may or may not have done, NO ONE deserves to be spoken to that way, no less your own child. Your flesh and blood.
He's not a parent. He's a monster.
ETA: Parents teach respect by giving it. Obviously, his daughter has not learned it, but how could she? No one's teaching her.
I understand children should respect their parents, heck I respect mine, but in the 29 years I've been on this earth they've never said anything like that to me.
