Once you see the ridiculous amounts of money people get for frivilous lawsuits, it's hard not to follow in the craze and hit that lotto jackpot you always wanted

(but, no - I have not sued anyone)

Re: Alot of sueing talk lately so...

many yrs ago I was sued by some a-hole for a car accident I was involved in. it was a multi car pileup (b/c of black ice). I wasn't even moving b/c there was an accident up ahead. I got hit from behind and went into a divider on the road. the guy in front of me (who I didn't even hit!) sued me and the guy who hit me for $1 million Chat Icon Chat Icon

I had to go to court and give a deposition. nothing ever came out of it. the guy suing was a total loser and the case never even made it to court.

Re: Alot of sueing talk lately so...

we sued when my DH was a passanger in a car and they got hit so hard the SUV rolled 2 times

we had alot of out of pocket medical expenses and ALOT of lost income due to the seriousness of Jake's injuries- he has 2 crushed vertibrate in his neck and barely got out of bed for 2 years even with enough pain killers to kill the average person

we settled over the summer for peanuts- due to him being 250lb and looking extremely fit and healthy - even though he wasn't- his lawyer felt he would not be a sympatheic witness

we are just happy that after 2 years he felt better with out surgey! and is back to being the person he was before the accident- it was starting to take a huge toll on our lives

Re: Alot of sueing talk lately so...

I sued someone car insurance once due to an accident. I didnt get much, enough to cover co-pays, no fault deductible and some money for lost wages. It was really for that over anything else cause I was out of work unpaid for almost 2 weeks.

I think I got $5K if I remember correctly.

well I'm a litigation attorney, so I sue people all the time Chat Icon

But I was in a car accident where i was a passenger in a taxi and I sued. The case settled out of court before depositions.

ETA: I used to see my lawyer from that case in Court a lot when I first started practicing. We even had a case together.

Haven't been involved in a lawsuit but have threatened to sue a company. They sent me a $2500 check to resolve the matter. I sent them another letter saying it was unacceptable. They gave me the full purchase price back.

I would sue if I felt it was justified.

Re: Alot of sueing talk lately so...

I'm a litigation attorney also, so I sue people all the time as well. But, personally, I've never sued, even though I've had quite a few instances where I could have and probably should have. I have been sued for about $500k for a horrible accident I had when I was 17 - it was total and complete BS. My opinion on this is that those lawsuits should really be reserved for only the most egregious of cases, where the injured person has life lasting injuries, and/or no insurance coverage and can't pay the medical bills.

Re: Alot of sueing talk lately so...

When my sister was very little (like kindergarten) she got hit by a car, nothing major (it's actually a really funny story). The guy who hit her at first was very apologetic and was offering to do anything he could... but as soon as the police showed up with the ambulance he denied anything happened, so my parents sued him for the cost of the medical expenses. She wasn't seriously hurt, but still needed medical attention... it was something my parents did NOT want to do, but I guess they were in a position at the time (I was like 10) that they needed assistance paying the med. bills, so suing was their only option..

Re: Alot of sueing talk lately so...

I finally sued my ex-boss for commissions he owes me - 27K AFTER trying every other possible means of getting him to pay me.

He in turn has COUNTERsued -- for 10 MILLION.

Here's an example of a frivolous case!

yes, i got sued by my former employer for breach of contract. we went before the judge and everything and then we ended up settling. they are complete morons! they wasted alot of money suing me and then got no money back cause they realized half way thru that they didnt have a strong case. it also helps that my attorney plays tennis with the judge! No. I came close once when I fell in a hole a Keyspan crew was digging. It was on the corner of a side street, had no cones or barriers in front of it, and when I turned the corner, I was looking the other way at a shop across the street.

Luckily, not much happened to me. I had some scrapes and a mild sprain. I sent Keyspan an itemized list of my expenses (bandages, doctor's office visit to check the sprain, time missed from work) which someone agreed to pay over the phone. When too much time went by with no reply or check and no return phone calls, I called one more time and threatened to proceed with a lawsuit the following day if I didn't hear from anyone. It was amazing how quickly someone called back! This was mostly a bluff on my part, I just wanted my costs reimbursed. Despite the fact that they were extremely negligent, I wasn't really hurt, and I didn't want to bother with a lawsuit at the time.

You know both my Mother and my Aunt feel in street holes that were being worked on. My mother, right in front out the house. She came out (no cones, no workers) and stepped into the street and WHAM..right into a hole with cement. Thank goodness she was not seriously injured - she was 7 months pregnant at the timeChat Icon

My Aunt was in front of the church after mass and wene to cross the street and WHAM -she wasn't able to stand for over a week.

WTH is wrong with some of these workers.

OMG, so this has happened to others also?!? I should have known.

The workers were on break I think, and they all came running when I fell in the ground. They were decent, got out their first aid stuff, put me in a cab (and paid for the cab), but they still should have had something up blocking the hole. I remember one kept offering to get me cookies at some bakery nearby, it was just too weird!

I'm sorry to hear this happened to two members of your family also, esp. a pregnant woman!
