Already a Picky Eater?

Prunes, pears and oatmeal are the staples she eats as far as solids go.
Tried banannas NO WAY. Peaches she actually makes herself gag. Sweet Potatoes she is iffy on.
Do you just keep retrying (I've tried banannas and peaches a few times already) or just assume they don't like it and move on?

I keep retrying. She never got into the pureed green beans, but she'll eat them whole now. And I always eat a bite and make a big deal out of how yummy it is. I've read they pick up on your non verbal cues, so if you look like "I wonder if she'll like it this time" she may refuse it, but if you look super excited, she is more likely to eat it.

I have heard that you need to introduce a food to a baby around 20 times for them to like it. It was on a TV child psychologist show here that was about kids who are picky eaters...

Well, I read on the Gerber label that it can take up to 10 tries to get a baby to like a food.

I ran into this problem also with Jake...he's the polar opposite of Miranda... all the things you say she hates, he looooves. Peaches and Sweet Potatoes are his absolute favorites! Chat Icon

I just looked at my SILs daughter who is the fussiest, pickiest, most PITA eater ever and DH and I said to each other - we will NOT turn our child into THAT. So I make sure to expose him to all different things and (as tempting as it is) try not to stick to only his favorites. I save his favorites for the cranky days, and make quick with the peas when he's happy.

Thanks, I'll keep trying but there is not way in hell I am tasting that stuff. Pureed food is just gross to me (I do make sure not to make faced when feeding her though).
I was at a baby shower this weekend and they did a baby food game. I tried to play by smelling. I would not taste it.

Chat Icon I taste everything before it goes into Jake's mouth. DH won't go near it. I figure if I'm making him eat it, shouldn't I know what it taste like? And what if it's really bad, ya know? So I dab a tiny bit on my finger and taste. It usually tastes fine...ugh except the one time I finally decided to taste the formula...oh god, I almost hurled my brains out. I don't know HOW they drink that stuff! Chat Icon

ETA: They drink nasty formula and then have the nerve to gag at peas!! Chat Icon

Re: Already a Picky Eater?

Bella has rejected green beans and peas. She won't even eat them if in a mxed veggie jar...and forget trying to mix them with cereal or fruit...she's totally onto us.

I guess they like what they like...but I know if she doesn't like something, she'll zip up for the rest of the meal and there goes the neighborhood...so trying ten times may not happen...

Re: Already a Picky Eater?

Jenna is not much for the green beans, she actually spit them out, can't say I blame her because they taste nasty. As far as fruit and cereal goes she likes them all

Re: Already a Picky Eater?

Give it a week or two and try again. Nate didn't care for green beans at first but he loves them now.

I think the worst one is the creamed spinach.... OMG talk about smelly.

Chat Icon Chat Icon Actually some of it tastes kind of good!!! I taste a lot of it just because I want to see what it tastes like for her and they aren't bad, just the texture is what is weird to me. But the gerber squash tastes almost like pumpkin pie if you mix the cereal in with it. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon
