Alternative Fuel Cars: electric, hybrid, etc
Anyone considering one now? My boss has a Prius and loves it.
My lease is up in less than a year now so I'm wondering what will be out there by then.

I've had a Prius since 2010 and I LOVE IT!!! When our lease is up, we are hoping to get another one (depends on price since they've gone up a bit).
We average 48mpg, fill up every other week, and get about 440 miles with a full tank. This car was one of the best decisions we've ever made. It has been so worth it!

I like the concept of the prius but not the design, besides...I can't imagine going back to a sedan smaller than my previous car. if they made a nice SUV that I could fit my family in comfortably and I could feel safe enough that in an accident my car wouldn't crush like a pepsi can I'd be all over it.

Yes I would really love to buy a hybrid but there aren't great options in the larger, family car category. There are a few but their gas mileage isn't much better than a regular SUV.

I know what you mean. I have a Kia Sorento, I love the extra 3rd seats, although I'd give them up. My main thing is safety and a BIG accessible trunk!
I just looked and saw a Hylander Hybrid, but it says only 28mpg, doesn't sound like much.

My DH wants a Chevy Volt. They are quite pricey though. For my commute though I would NEVER need gas. It can go 38 miles on one charge before the gas kicks in. Then you recharge at home. How awesome would that be these days?

Toyota makes an Electric Rav4 but it's kind of pricy IMO ($50k) but it does get over 70mpg!!
Prius makes a larger version that gets 40/44mpg - looks almost like a mini van. It just doesn't qualify for a clean pass.
I will say though that even though it looks small, the Prius is very roomy in the back. My co-worker has a GMC SUV and we went out with her kids for lunch last week in my car and they were amazed that something that looked so small had so much room in the back - more than their SUV!

Depends on where you live, at least for the last week or so....

Oh yes. Power outages are no bueno for the Volt! But I do like the styling too. Pretty hot for an alternative fuel car!

My husband has had a Prius for over a year and loves it. I've been driving it lately and except for a blind spot that I have to be aware of, I really like it.So does our daughter. I get about 54 MPG and one day got 59 MPG which was amazing. It sips gas and the savings in gas about covers its monthly cost.

Re: Alternative Fuel Cars: electric, hybrid, etc
I am on my second Prius, I love it. It is roomy for a small sedan. It's also very safe for a small car and it has a very large cargo area. I usually average 51 mpg. The clean pass is my favorite part, it saves me so much time. The plug in version of the prius is available now but I'm not convinced yet that it's a good buy because it's more expensive than the standard Prius and we pay so much more for electric compared to other areas. I would need to see proof that gas is much more expensive than current lipa rates.

I drove a Volt at that test drive event in Riverhead a few weeks ago. Pretty cool car. I need a slightly bigger car, but if I didn't have two school-age kids with sports gear, I would definitely look into seriously getting one.

Not a fan of anything out yet unless its a flexfuel. My parents just got a prius and love it. I really want something more like a station wagon/hatchback small suv since I lug a lot of equipment around. Hope by the time I have enough saved up for a new car in three years that Subaru comes out with something that ain't a hybrid sedan. BTW I filled up on my altima OCt. 26th and i am just at 3/4 of a tank. However I stayed home pretty much for a week.
