Am I crazy? No birthday party for DD's 2nd?
We are going to be visiting DH's family in upstate NY for two weeks right before DD's second birthday.
My mom and a cousin are coming up for a weekend while we are there (we are from OOS, so they take every opportunity to see us when we are close).
We are planning to have a little party for her while we are all there.
I was thinking of doing another party for her when we get back-one for kids at a bounce and play type place. We have a couple friends with kids in the area, but not many and we would invite the kids from her daycare class-but I don't know how many would show.
Given the time crunch and the cost and the fact that she is so little she won't really remember too much-do you think it is a big deal if I skip the kids party when we are back and just do the family party upstate? I'm mixed...

Re: Am I crazy? No birthday party for DD's 2nd?
I know some parents that just had a family party only for their DCs second Birthday. I think it really depends upon how close you are to the other parents. I don't think you need to feel obligated to have a friend party.
ETS: For DSs first birthday we spent almost $900 for just family and a few neighbors. This time we are having both a children's party and a small family BBQ. The children's party is about $275 and the bbq will be about $100 when all is said and done.

We are not, we had what amounted to a wedding last year for his 1st, lol. This year, immediate aunts, uncles, great gparents, grandparents and thats it!

Re: Am I crazy? No birthday party for DD's 2nd?
josh's 2nd birthday consisted of his one friend meeting us at chuck e cheese, then coming back to my place for pizza and cake.
the weekend before we took him to the mountains and on the polar express.
this year I think I am getting a room at great wolf.
I am waiting for school friends.

We're doing grandparents and the aunts that live with the grandparents (because we don't want to offend them) and that's it.

Re: Am I crazy? No birthday party for DD's 2nd?
We were initially going to keep it very small for DD's 2nd birthday. Just immediate family. That was the plan after her big 1st bday bash. Well, in the end, we decided to go with another "bash" for her 2nd bday ... and I'm so glad we did!
I don't think there is a right or wrong here, but I just figured I'd share our experience.

Re: Am I crazy? No birthday party for DD's 2nd?
We are just having a small family party for DS's 2nd bday in a few months - in our backyard. IMO I really don't think a kids only party is important at this age. But, i think it depends on your individual situation like if your DC has already started preschool or is in daycare and has a ton of friends she sees all the time than that might be different...

Me too. I feel like the parties are soo expensive but then when I think of not doing one, I feel guilty. Maybe b/c my DD will turn 4 the same month and will have a birthday party.

I think doing one when you're upstate is perfect, no need for another one by you unless you really wanted it. After all, what's most important at the party-- having your loved ones share in it, and that's what you (and she) will have when you're upstate! But she does still need a killer dress

Oh, were are still going to do the whole polka dot thing-I'll pack the decorations and the outfit to go with us, even if it will be a small BBQ typle thing
In fact, she now has two outfits for the non-party, as I just bought this the other day:
