am I mean?
so I finally (almost) finished my apartment
I got all new bedding- I had to throw away a $200 comforter b/c it was covered in cat hair I couldn't sleep with it anymore
Pokey scratched my nose 2 nights ago and I woke up bleeding (he is always hurting me lately- walking on me or hitting me)
so I decided to lock them out last night
I got the best nights sleep and they cried at the door
I don't want to let them back into my bedroom
is that mean?
it's not like they don't have the rest of the house to hang out in
I am just sick of everything I own being covered in cat hair

Re: am I mean?
We kicked the dogs out of the bedroom months ago. Best. Move. Ever.
I no longer move my blankets and get bombarded with hair, and everything stays cleaner. They've adjusted just fine.

Re: am I mean?
No. We are trying to phase our dogs out of sleeping in our bed b/c they hog up the bed. They have a million other places to sleep (couch, their beds, DDs small chairs, etc). So no, as much as I feel bad when i hear them whimper, I try to resist. But I have to admit, I give in alot quicker than DH does.

Yah, what's up with that?! Lucy peed on the bed the other week in her sleep! She didn't even wake up. I was thinking maybe UTI but nope, nothing.
ETA: But nope, I kick my dogs out of the bed all the time!

Re: am I mean?
not mean, they'll adjust. my princess still sleeps on the bed with us but i can't see that going over well a few months from now. i'm getting up more frequently during the night to pee and she's definitely getting all sassy on me.

Re: am I mean?
Not at all. I don't like cat hair all over my stuff either! Alfie has the run of the house, especially at night when the dog sleeps in the bedroom with us. He hangs out with us after work, and he no longer cries at our door.

Re: am I mean?
Not at all. I used to sleep with my dog when I was still single but once I got married my dog was kicked out of the bedroom and it was the best thing ever. I don't have dog hair all over my stuff and I sleep better with her not sleeping in between my legs.
She used to cry in the beginning also but eventually she got used to not being in the bedroom with me.

Re: am I mean?
Nope, you're not mean. When we had an apartment, our cats/dog had the run of the house and slept in our bed.
Since we moved into our home, and have more expensive furniture and nice hard wood floors in the bedrooms, they are not allowed in them.
They can go everywhere else in the house though.
The amount of hair still makes DH especially nuts. (Pugs shed A ton as do the kitties).

Not at all. They will adjust. Animals shouldn't really be sleeping with you anyway.

Re: am I mean?
From day one I haven't let my dog on the bed. No regrets. He has two beds on either side of our bed. You are not mean!

Re: am I mean?
Not mean at all. We dont even let Achilles in our room because I want it to be off limits for him and it's the only room in the house we have carpet.

Re: am I mean?
I don't think you are mean. I am not allergic to my cat, but her habit of sleeping next to my hip might be causing some kind of reaction (my eyes are constantly red). I have ruled everything else out and I am attempting to clean my comforter more often to see if it helps. If not..... I will be hearing her meow outside my door. Stinks, but can't live with red eyes for the rest of my life either. She'll survive in the other comfy places I have for her.

Re: am I mean?
Not mean at all, our dogs dont sleep with us unless DH is gone on a work trip and then they get spoiled and I allow them to sleep with me.

Re: am I mean?
Not mean at all- our cats are not allowed in our bedroom ever. But we started that when they were babies so they are just used to it now.
Your cats will adjust- just give it some time.
You need your sleep! They will be fine!

Re: am I mean?
No, you're not mean at all. My animals (cats included) are NOT allowed in our room while we sleep. the only exception was our Doberman puppy slept in there in his crate before he could sleep through the night without a bathroom break.
The animals get enough of my time (er, almost all of it!) - I get those 6 hours or so at night to myself!
And I am typing this on the couch, with my Doberman Pinscher on one side of me, my Treeing Walker Coonhound on the other side of me, and two cats sitting up near my shoulders.
