Am I really going to need a pack-n-play for newborn?

I have a 2 bedroom co-op & space is limited. I am getting a bouncer, jumparoo, possibly a small travel swing.
Do I really need to have a pack-n-play too?

I have a ranch house and have had no need for it here. with the bedrooms all on one level i just use the monitor and leave him napping in a bedroom. i could see needing it for a 2-story house. i may get one for my mom's, or for travel, but for at home he's slept in the glider for the first 6 weeks, then the bassinet, and now the crib. he naps either on us, in the swing, or in the glider (or usually not at allChat Icon )

We have one because we have a 2 floor house and it's very convenient for naps. I have it in my dining room.

IMO it is invaluable. I had one in a one bedroom apt. and it was so great for her to sleep in during hte day.

we hardly used the pack and play when dd was an infant. once she was older and outgrew the swing and bouncy, it became a lifesaver!

My DS is 5 weeks old and we haven't used it in our house, but it has definitely come in handy at others. We've had some parties and I just went to my friend's house, but you need somewhere to change them and let them sleep. My DS HATES the carseat, so leaving him in there to sleep is not an option. I am definitely glad we got one.

I live in a ranch and my house is small. I loved the pack n play. She napped in it during the day until she was about 3-4 months.

I was actually thinking about putting it away now, but she is on the verge of crawling and I'm thinking it might be a good place to put her for a few minutes when I need to get something done.

I also just wanted to add that it might be good to get one to have when you go visiting others. We keep one in the car to set up for napping when we are with family or friends.

Nope. I wouldn't bother. We have a two floor house with a finished basement - where we keep the pnp and I would be surprised if DS was in more than 10x.

DD is 3.5 months and she has slept in it every night since she was born (in the bassinet feature).

If you travel a lot, I would get it. But if you're not the traveling kind...and space is limited, I don't think it's essential.

We have a two floor house so it was (and soon will be again) downstairs. We used it as a changing table. A safe place to put DS when I needed to answer the phone or run to the bathroom. I loved it for traveling b/c I knew it was safe. I really feel like we got our moneys worth out of it.

Re: Am I really going to need a pack-n-play for newborn?

we've used it since the day we came home from the hospital. We have a PnP with the bassinet option and DS sleeps in it at night. (We have a 2 BR apt, all one level)

If you're getting a bassinet or a cradle, it's not necessary.

We have one and we really don't use it at all. It came in handy the 2 or 3 times we traveled and my DD played in it maybe a handful of times at home but we're taking it down tomorrow. We really don't use it and it just takes up a lot of space.

Re: Am I really going to need a pack-n-play for newborn?

We have one. Used it in our room for a few days and that's it. Yael sleeps in her crib and naps in her bouncy seats, so no, I don't think it's necessary at all.

It all depends on your needs. I have to tell you that some of the things I have I didn't know how much I needed them until I actually needed them Chat Icon The pnp was one of those things. DS was in our room for the first week and slept in it. Spent all of his naps in the pnp for the first 3 months and now uses it for vacations and sleep overs.

Re: Am I really going to need a pack-n-play for newborn?

DS slept in his for the first two months of his life.

We also had a second PnP set up downstairs as a changing table, but that isn't necessary, just easier.

We have also used it many times as a crib when we go on trips or go to visit people for the day. To us is is a necessity, but everyone is different Chat Icon

Re: Am I really going to need a pack-n-play for newborn?

I live in a small 2 bedroom apartment and we use the PNP more than the CRIB!

We had her sleeping in the bassinet part of the PNP for the first 3 months, then transitioned her to the crib. Her room doesn't have A/C, so when it got really hot out, we used the PNP in our bedroom for her to sleep in.

They fold up really small, so if you find that you're not using it, it won't take up a lot of storage space.

Re: Am I really going to need a pack-n-play for newborn?

Mine was still in the box until a few days ago and DD is 7 months. The onyl reason we opened it was because MIL's PNP was not in good condition so we just gave her ours. We never used in our house ever.

Re: Am I really going to need a pack-n-play for newborn?

We only used one because we have a 2 story house, otherwise I wouldn't have purchased one. In your situtation you really don't need one if you have a crib.
