Re: Am I right? Cell phone policy @ work

I would keep it on vibrate either in my desk or bag and check it periodically. Especially if your school policy is not to pass calls that go through your secretarys office to your room regardless.
ITA but I would not tell my co-workers I am doing this.

If the rule is to turn them off, that's what I would do.

Re: Am I right? Cell phone policy @ work
i would bring that up to the union ASAP. if you can't have your phone on and calls aren't allowed to be transfered to you that is crazy. why should they test this policy with a real emergency?
i would not turn my phone off. i would leave it on vibrate in my bag if i were you. lunch is your time and you have every right to do what you want during that time. prep could be another story since it's technically not your time.

Re: Am I right? Cell phone policy @ work
I am a teacher with the same policy. Both of my children are in school (public elem. school and private pre-k) and my husband works in a dangerous, often life threatening field.
That said my cell is ALWAYS on vibrate in my pocket. I communicate with my husband and more infrequently, my younger son's teacher via text, sometimes several times a day. My main office would NOT patch my husbands calls through 3x in one day, and YES I do need to speak to him that often because his schedule changes on a dime which affects our childrens care.
I never ever speak on my phone during instructional time, and I think that's important, but my family always comes first.

ITA.. that policy is RIODICULOUS. No calls transferred to the rooms?!?!?!? Has anyone asked what would happen if there was an emergency?

At first I was going to say to follow the policy but then you added that they will not patch calls through. I would keep my phone on vibrate as well but in no way tell my coworkers. In the building I worked in, many people seemed nice but really would throw you under the bus to get anything they needed.
Good luck

Re: Am I right? Cell phone policy @ work
this has been a policy at several of my jobs but i have kinda bent the rules.... when they made that a rule a few years back where i worked i kept it in my lab coat pocket on vibrate... BUT my first husband was severely ill and i needed to have the contact all the time (the one time i didnt have it on me they were moving him to intensive care)
now when i work i still keep it on vibrate but more for my sanity.. if i worked ft then it would be different, but for the random shift i work no one is going to keep track of the number to call
