Am I the only one that didn't know this, re.: fabric softner
I have always used Totally Toddler fabric softner on the kids clothes but I ran out of it and didn't feel like going to BRU so I just bought Free and Clear Downy and for some reason today AFTER I did the kids wash I read the back and it said not recommended for childrens clothing because it lessens the flame resistance on the clothes. I had no idea. Do you think the Totally Toddler one is safe on the kids clothes?

I would check the container, I use dreft it says its safe for the babys clothing and doesnt effect the fire retarten, also dont use fabric softnter, it puts a coat on clothing and stops the fire retarten from working. My lamaze teacher told us, otherwise i would have had no clue. My sis has 3 kids and had no clue about this.

Its true, but not all kids clothing is flame resistant...its mostly the non-snug sleepwear for ages 12m+. Check the labels...if its not flame resistant to begin with, using fabric softener won't make a difference. Of course, you may not want to do a separate load just for those few pieces, but that's entirely up to you.
I've never used Totally Toddler but I would be surprised if its any different than the others...if you or anyone finds out if it is, post and let us know!!

We were warned about this at that Baby expo at the Coliseum so we've always used those dryer balls for DD's clothes instead of fabric softener.

I only knew it because I worked at a children's clothing store during college.
Like a PP said, it's really only an issue if the clothing has been treated to be flame retardant, and many clothes are not. I do find with Dreft though, I don't need fabric softener anyway.

I don't use fabric softener but I actually just read this on the back of the dryer sheets the other day. I was surprised, and glad I never use them for their clothes!
