am I the only one who hasn't cut out all alcohol?

I'm begining to think I'm the only one who still indulges. I would say I have a glass of wine a week. And honestly, I don't feel even slightly guilty over it.
I have always been a drinker and if I'm having a nice meal I allow myself a glass of wine. I don't see anything wrong with it. I figure, it's not like I'm doing a shot, I'm sipping wine with a meal.
Anyone else?

Re: am I the only one who hasn't cut out all alcohol?

I started having glass of wine or bottle of beer here and there at around 26 weeks and on...don't feel guilty about it, I don't get drunk or even buzzed...my doc said it was perfectly fine and good for the braxton hicks i had been having!

I also don't go crazy over every food though..i've had hot dogs, cold cuts etc..and i don't feel guilty. I'm healthy in every way so i'm not denying myself everything!

While I didn't have 1 a week, I definitely had a few glasses of wine during my pregnancy...no guilt whatsoever!

I feel the same way. I eat whatever I want, in moderation. I also go to the gym 3-5 times a week, so I feel like overall I'm very healthy.

Re: am I the only one who hasn't cut out all alcohol?

I had an occasional glass of wine towards the end of my pregnancy. I would say maybe 4-5 glasses during the entire pregnancy, but when I did do it I was OK with it. I only had one at a time and the doctor said it was alright.

I also ate coldcuts, hotdogs, etc. during the pregnancy. My nutritionist for the gestational diabetes said it was OK and this was at a special office for high risk pregnancies.

I heard that drs say wine isnt bad...I have to big of a guilty conscience so i personally couldnt but I think its a personal choice for everyone. I am missing my hot dogs though and others seem to be eating them so I dont think theres ever a straight answer to what is good and whats bad.

I haven't indulged yet, but I do plan to at some point. I've been told that an occasional glass is fine. I have always been a drinker too. I was just afraid I would still feel guilty (I know I shouldn't) and I want to enjoy it.

I've always been a drinker, but I haven't had anything since becoming pg. I wouldn't dare have anything in my first trimester and now it just doesn't bother me. Sometimes I would like to have a small glass, but DH would have something to say Chat Icon . I should tell him when he stops smoking, then he can tell me what not to do Chat Icon

I tried having a glass of wine but for some reason it just didn't taste as good as it normally would. Go figure.

I was a big drinker. My ms was bad in the 1st trimester, that I could not imagine drinking. Now, honestly, I was never a 1 beer or 1 glass of wine kind of girl. So I cut it out all together.

i never did. i ate whatever i wanted but for me, i just didn't think any kind of alcohol was worth it during that time. my doctor said it was fine to have a glass of wine, but i just didn't find it necessary.

Re: am I the only one who hasn't cut out all alcohol?

I have had about 10 glasses of wine so far. I waited until my 20 week to do so (i think it was Mothers Day). Now i have about a glass every week or so. With the heat, i am pretty dehydrated so I don't really want it, but last night i was getting so agitated with how uncomfortable i was that i had a glass of my favorite wine and it was YUMMY! My doctor is fine with it and that is all that matters to me.

I actually would probably have some more on social occassions (i.e. a wedding), but i don't want people looking at me strangly so i don't do it then. Mainly with my DH or family.

Oh and in the beginning (after 12 weeks) i indulged in an O'Douls here and there. Not my favorite but i had strong cravings for beer so that did the job for me.

I can't wait to get a good buzz on after they are here. Chat Icon

I have actually drank in public and haven't gotten the weird looks I thought I would. In fact, many waiters are like, "it's ok if you just have a little." Just this weekend I took DH out for dinner for his 30th b-day and had wine with dinner. Then DH's friend's came and I bought a bottle of champagne and had a little toast.

Re: am I the only one who hasn't cut out all alcohol?

Okay..I am going to say it..I am suprised that you are drinking alchol and don't think twice about it.
I can't imagine drinking while pregnant or smoking (or being around smokers) either..both are just risks that I was not prepared to take with my child.
When I was 8 months pregnant I saw a pregnant women (maybe 5-6 months along) drink 2 or 3 glasses of wine at a wedding and I thought it was irresponsible and couldn't imagine why she would do that to her baby.

You are more than entitled to feel that way. Anything you eat or drink while pregnant has to fit into your comfort zone- some people will not eat cold cuts or hot dogs while pregnant, some will.
However, I don't think it's fair to judge anyone for doing what they're comfortable with. I firmly believe that I am NOT taking risks with my child and a glass of wine here or there is harmless.

Re: am I the only one who hasn't cut out all alcohol?

I am not a drinker...So I never drank while pg.

But when I would complain about back aches... the Dr would tell me to have a little wine....

SO I know for some- Dr.s dont see anything wrong with an occasional glass of wine...

I've never been a wine drinker, but if I was, I wouldn't hesitate to have a glass now and then. I do share DH's beer once in a while.

Re: am I the only one who hasn't cut out all alcohol?

I personally am not drinking during this pregnancy, but I was under the impression that an occassonal glass of wine was okay in the last trimester.
I don't feel the need to drink though, so I don't.

Having a glass of wine (or a bottle of beer) does nothing to me (i.e buzzed or drunk). I drink it for the taste of it. I never have had more then one glass of wine and waited until after 20 weeks to do so and with the doctor permission. So i don't consider it a risk to my unborn child. I think there are a lot of other things in the air and in the things we eat that can be far worse for the baby.

I think personally so many doctors tell woman not to eat/drink so many things for the fear that if they do and something is wrong with their baby they will be sued for malpractice.

My doctor said with the exception of raw fish and smoking everything in moderation is fine. That is what i go by. If i listened to what every single person says i think that would drive me more insane.
