I am not doing anything lavish!
No entertainers, No big favors, No food!
I rented a hall only because I cannot fit more than about 5 people in my house!

We probably won't. We will have a family party in our yard....but there are no other kids excpt my neice and DS in our family who would enjoy entertainment, etc.
Plus we have ipods and a docking station as a DJ

Re: Am i the only one who ISNT having a big 1st B Day party?????
I am planning to take the grandparents and aunt and uncle out for dinner to celebrate with us. We did the big christening (even though I didnt want to) and neigther of us enjoyed it too much. So dh gave into me and decided to keep the first birthday small.

I wanted a big first birthday party, but DH did not since we already had a big Christening. So, we will be having immediate family only, at the house. I wrote out regular invitations from the store (not specially printed ones). We will order food though, because I can't cook for more than 4 people!

We only did the big 1st b-day because we didn't have a briss or christening. But let me tell you, that will be DS's last big party until his wedding. From now on it will be immediate family over for pizza and cake, and then a small chidren's party.

Re: Am i the only one who ISNT having a big 1st B Day party?????
Nope. We just went to our niece's 1st B-day and it was her mom and dad and us and DD at Benihana and then presents and cake at home. So 6 people total and it was a perfect day. I called to ask my SIL about what her DD was wearing and my DH thought THAT was going over-board so you know how he feels about a big party.
Our DD will be similar event except we aren't even going to go out. I will make dinner at our house, the cake will be made by my best friend who loves to bake and will be about 8 people total max. There may be ballons.

Re: Am i the only one who ISNT having a big 1st B Day party?????
Nope, we're not doing much at all. I totally dropped the ball on this one. I wanted to plan a big party with friends & family in NY (we live in Chicago now) but it was too overwhelming & was going to be so expensive (our guest list was huge) so now we're doing nothing. Her birthday is on Saturday and it's just the 3 of us here. We may take her to the aquarium and out to a nice dinner. We're going to be in NY in 3 weeks so we're going to celebrate with family then. I feel awful. We were at Cheesecake Factory last week and they were singing Happy Birthday a few tables away. DD got so excited. I feel so bad it's just going to be us singing to her. We don't really have any friends here yet.

Re: Am i the only one who ISNT having a big 1st B Day party?????
We are having a big party but no entertainers, jumpy-things and the like.
Our families live in Minnesota and we'll be there for Christmas and DD's 1st bday party. Her party is our opportunity to see everyone in our families (aunts & uncles & cousins) that we haven't seen since our wedding and their opportunity to meet DD for the 1st time.
We didn't have a christening party either.

Re: Am i the only one who ISNT having a big 1st B Day party?????
I wanted to have a big thing until I realized that no one would come. My entire family lives out of state and while I have some friends here, I don't really think I want to have a big to do just to have a dozen people come. I was thinking we would just go to WDW instead.

Same here.
I sometimes think these big parties are more for the parents than the kids. We will be keeping it small.
We didn't do a christening/bris and won't be doing a big b-day party either. Personaly, I can't see spending hundreds and thousands on something they have no memory of. I'd rather spend the money a few years from now and take them on a great vacation when they are old enough to have the memory of it.

Re: Am i the only one who ISNT having a big 1st B Day party?????
I didn't have a party for DS's 1st birthday, and prob. won't have one for DD. I personally don't see the point in them for the child, they are for the parents and family. They have no idea what is going on and Ryan was perfectly happy having a piece of birthday cake and calling it a day.

Re: Am i the only one who ISNT having a big 1st B Day party?????
We're probably not doing anything big. I'm constantly on call and DH's family is having some major feuds and I would be ticked if someone didn't show because someone else was. So, we're keeping it real and with friends at our place...maybe a pizza or something.

Re: Am i the only one who ISNT having a big 1st B Day party?????
You are not a bad mommy!
We are not having a big party either. It was agreed to keep it immediate family. DS' Bday is in January, so, obviously are not going to have it outdoors. We are not renting a hall, or a restaurant, nothing. It's going to be here at the house with hero and a few dishes catered. I'll do favors for my nephews and niece. They will be the only children here. We don't have the money or the room to do anything huge. I will make up the invitations myself and the theme is actually a no brainer..LOL..DS LOOOVVEESSS Elmo, so, we are set with that (a tablecloth, plates and napkins) OOOhhh and the cake.
We did a HUGE Christening and to me personally, that was the party to make huge (and this was just a backyard party).

You are not a bad mommy. We decided to do something a little more intimate for our son at home. Invited family and our friends, ordered food and cut a cake... there were maybe 15 people there. For us it made more sense to have the petting zoos, entertainment, etc... when our son is old enough to enjoy some of it.

You are not a bad mommy. I had 20 people at my house last year, ordered 2 hero's and called it a day!!! I figured I'd save the money for a bday he would remember. Dont feel bad.

Re: Am i the only one who ISNT having a big 1st B Day party?????
We had a joint birthday party with 3 of my friends, our babies were all born within a few weeks of each other. We rented a church hall and just did our own food, all in all we spent about $70 each and we had about 70 people, it was a great party and everyone did a little bit. I got a cake from Costco (that cost £10) and we just enjoyed all being together!!!

no.. you're not the only one. since moving to the land of the living brain-dead.... we have no one here. so my parents and grandma are coming to visit and we will just go out to dinner or something. i am really upset over it though...i wanted to have a nice party for her. i am blaming this on my dh since he is the only one who wants to be here.
