no.. you're not the only one. since moving to the land of the living brain-dead.... we have no one here. so my parents and grandma are coming to visit and we will just go out to dinner or something. i am really upset over it though...i wanted to have a nice party for her. i am blaming this on my dh since he is the only one who wants to be here.
im so sorry you feel that way it will be nice to have your reletives over though it will be beautiful no matter what you do

Nope. We just went to our niece's 1st B-day and it was her mom and dad and us and DD at Benihana and then presents and cake at home. So 6 people total and it was a perfect day. I called to ask my SIL about what her DD was wearing and my DH thought THAT was going over-board so you know how he feels about a big party.
Our DD will be similar event except we aren't even going to go out. I will make dinner at our house, the cake will be made by my best friend who loves to bake and will be about 8 people total max. There may be ballons.
Same here.
I sometimes think these big parties are more for the parents than the kids. We will be keeping it small.
We didn't do a christening/bris and won't be doing a big b-day party either. Personaly, I can't see spending hundreds and thousands on something they have no memory of. I'd rather spend the money a few years from now and take them on a great vacation when they are old enough to have the memory of it.
ITA- I would much rather spend it on travel any day of the week!

I would have rather had DS's party at home but there was not enough room. I would not have had entertainers but what do you do with 15 kids in a hall for 4 hrs?? At least at home I have the yard, toys, swing!
A horrible mom would not celebrate at all!!
BTW if I would have know the day of DS's bday it would be 75 degrees I would have had a BBQ!!

I'm not planning on having a big party either. Just family and friends at the house.

Your son won't miss out on anything, he will be surrounded by the people who love him, that's what matters!
We had a small party at the house for her first, I don't even know if I sent out invitations or just called people.

People do what they feel is appropriate. Whether you have a big 1st birthday party or a small one, it is still a party in honor of your child. Dont even waste time thinking that your a bad mother

If your a bad mommy so i am then. I don't think the material things are what matters.
I had a small christening and 1st birthday party and have/will do the same for #2. both parties had about 30-40 people and dd's 1st birthday was in my il's backyard-no entertainment, no dj, we all had a great time and those memories to us are what matters, not the jumpy castles, cotton candy machines, dj's or favors :)
To me it's not the worth the money when your child can't even remember the party.
