To me it does.
Amex is accepted in a few less places.
Also Amex charges you to buy their gift card... I haven't purchased a Visa gift card in over a year - but last time I did they weren't charging me to get it.

Visa. Amex depreciates over time and is not accepted in all places.

Visa. After a certain amount of time, Amex depreciates by (I think) $2 a month.

Amex charges.
Visa cards sometimes charge too (like the simon visa's)
commerce gives Visa free.

Because some places don't charge 
And IMO I think gift cards sometimes look better then cash JMO though
