Crashing here. I don't see why everyone is attacking Icherian. The op asked a question and she answered with her opinion. It is nice to see an alternative view point and a different perspective. Take it or leave it as you choose.
Like others have said...it's not what she said...it's HOW she says it. I guess we will have to agree to disagree. I don't see anything wrong with what she said or how she said it. At the end, she clearly says it is just her opinion. I think people tend to get upset when someone presents a view that is less " mainstream".
Read JKFris09's post and you'll see that you are in fact incorrect on that. There are ways to present your thoughts without coming off as a know-it-all and Icherian failed in that aspect.

Exactly - and it doesn't hurt that you two pretty much agree with each other all the time, of course you don't see anything wrong with what she says

Re: amoxicillian
If I come off condescending, I apologize as that is not mat intention at all. I know that my opinions are not the norm (heck I probably would've rolled my eyes at myself a year ago) and I'm pretty passionate about them. If what I say helps one person on here to make a change in their life (even a small one) that makes me happy! But in the future, I will try to express my opinions in a more palatable way.

Unless you really need it, I would avoid antibiotics during pregnancy. Antibiotics change your gut flora which you pass on to your unborn child. Abnormal flora could possibly lead to other issues down the road for your child such as asthma, etc.
As far as "safety" of taking antibiotics during pregnancy, I believe what doctors are referring to is that it won't cause a miscarriage, stillbirth or birth defect, etc. However, whether antibiotic use during pregnancy cause more nuanced issues is unknown.
This is just my little ole opinion. You do what is best for you!
I would strongly urge the OP to NOT listen to any information like this regarding taking meds that doesn't come from a medical professional. If you have an infection and do not treat it, it can be very dangerous to both you and the baby. Please do not let someone scare you into going against any advice of medical professionals.

People are getting upset because in post after post on both Pregnancy and Parenting, lcherian responds with not just her opinion, but a tone that indicates if you are doing anything other than what she is doing, than you are at risk of harming your child. It is condescending to assume that because you don't agree with her then you must be wrong. This is a common theme with her posts.

I get that you are naturopathic friendly,as am I, but there are so many instances where antibiotics are completely necessary and THANK GOD we have them. Your normal flora can be easily replaced.
FWIW OP, I was on amoxicillin for nearly a month due to an infected wisdom tooth and everything has been fine with me and my baby since.

If you are worried about gut flora, take some probiotics.

ETS: I meant this, as gut flora is not a reason to avoid medication if you need it. There are ways to help repair the flora.

I had strep throat. Dr prescribed amoxicillin. I took it for 3 or 4 days. I told my OB at my last visit that I had strep a few weeks back and she asked/ made sure if I got an antibiotic.
Edit: spelling
