An interesting discussion:
Does anyone feel that people are increasingly becoming more and more like "it's all about me?"
Several of my friends were having a discussion recently and many of us felt that they see more and more examples of people more concerned about themselves and what is easiest for them and less concerned with others....I understand people want to look out for their families etc but that isn't even what I see - I mean just people doing things b.c it makes their lives easier but expecting others to bend over backwards or make more of an effort to make their lives easier while forgetting more old fashioned consideration.
Discuss....

Yes. I don't know why, but I think people are becoming more like that and our society in general is encouraging it.

Re: An interesting discussion:
I feel like I am seeing this more and more. From people's driving habits (ie cutting into a lane at the last minute) to shopping in the grocery store (people leaving their cart in the middle of the aisle as if no one needs to get by). It's really sad that people don't think beyond what they need to do/get done.

Re: An interesting discussion:
ABSOLUTELY!
I feel like we are in the "Entitlement Generation" or something. It's downright disgusting how so many people feel entitled to whatever they want, but not have to work/earn it.
Teenagers today are a prime example of this, and you see it everywhere. I despise it.

Definitely and it really bothers me. DH and I talk about this all the time. Everyone is so wrapped up in themselves.

Re: An interesting discussion:
Totally true--until those people get in more accidents, fail to get or keep jobs, and have no real friends. Then life teaches them how they should have treated others all along. I've seen more and more of THAT lately.
Good people with good intentions toward others tend to be happier (less whiny), and they perservere on the job market because people see through the others and want to keep them around.
So it's all good. Life takes care of things....

Re: An interesting discussion:
I do security in a school and parents constantly & blatantly park in the fire zone in front...give me attitude when i say they can't park there...and then give me more attitude when i ask for a photo ID when they want to pick up their child.
I explain to them that if an ambulance of firetruck needed to get in the building their vehicle is hindering that...or i explain that ID is all a part of safety for THEIR kid's sake I get the eye roll. You're driving...you should have your license on you anyway...

Re: An interesting discussion:
I think driving is the biggest example. I do think it's interesting that Jess said she sees it, since when we lived in San Diego, I felt that everyone was still nice and thought of others (driving included). It wasn't until coming back to NY that I was appalled with how people treat one another.

Re: An interesting discussion:
I absolutely do, but I tend to think a lot of people are not aware that this is how they are. My SIL is like that and has absolutely no clue about it.

That is very true but don't you think this is a very sad statement? That people don't care enough that they encourage it or turn a blind eye?

Re: An interesting discussion:
See I grew up being taught certain things were rude, impolite etc. But now a days these actions are common place. Although I try to teach my DDs' that it is rude to do these things - it is very hard when the adults around us that are supposed to be role models behave in this way.
