I got off the phone with Christine a little while ago.
First, she thanks all of you for your prayers
The important thing for everyone to know is, "The worst is over". That is how it was explained to me when my dad had a massive stroke 10 years ago and that's what I told Christine. Now, recovery and rehab begins for her dad.
Right now her dad can't move his left arm and right leg and his speech is very slurred and actually a bit garbled.
The good news is, he spoke to her on the phone. She was able to make out that he said he was feeling "crummy" and he told her DH he didn't think he'd be able to make the upcoming Giants game in the fall... that's very good news that he is still able to remember that info and communicate it.
Tonight, he is being transferred to another hospital that is better able to care for him.
I was able to tell her that it is very important that her dad receive PT immediately and to do range of motion exercises with all of his limbs to prevent clots and get the signals though to the brain.
His stroke is not the worst but it's not the mildest either. He does need continued prayers that his arm and leg will regain movement.
It's very early, on but it is a critical time for recovery. The more they do now and the more successful it is in reestablishing the pathways in the brain, the better his recovery. Please pray that the decisions that the docs/nurses/therapists make translate into the best recovery for him.
