An update on me...
So on Wednesday I start spotting, its very very light and I'm like oh here we go again with this crap. On Thursday I wake up and the spotting is completely gone, so I thought that was a good sign.
I wake up Friday and WHAM full blown period, red everything. I was scheduled to go on Monday for a pg test but I call Dr. Chu and make an appt to go in today. Me and Don wanted to do one more IUI before we started thinking about going the IVF route.
So she did a sonogram and it turns out I have a cyst on my ovaries so we would have to wait a month if we even decided to do another round of injections, She also did a pregnancy test.
So I am outside waiting to pay the bill and the nurse comes running out saying after I'm done to go in the back. I go back in and Chu says to me that my pregnant test came back positive..They drew blood, my beta is 20 but my progestorone is very low only 4.6, they want to see it around 10.
In an effort to get the progesterone up I did suppositories over the weekend. The bleeding was off and on the whole weekend also. Unfortunately, it didnt work... my levels dropped to an 18.
We have decided that we will be moving on to IVF. We have a consultation set up for March 13th and Chu has put our names in for the grant.
Thank you everyone for your continued support!!

Re: An update on me...
so do we
but, we we are extremely optimistic about IVF, given the successes on this board alone.
and we talked to parents, and are meeting with our financial advisor tomorrow night to see the best way to go about paying for this
we have quite a bit of money in different funds (not like a 401k or anything like that - we wouldn't touch that) - but we have several IRA and private funds to pull from so that it doesn't kill our savings
between that, anything our parents contribute and any grant money, we will be fine.
we'll set a certain amount of money aside for adoption, should IVF not work.
we'll be fine.

I just wanted to say I had just about those exact same numbers when I had my chemical 2 cycles ago. I'm so sorry, it sucks.
Good luck with the IVF thing. I really hope it works out for you guys!

Re: An update on me...
I'm so sorry about this I can't help to wonder if you were given progesterone suppositories in your 2ww would this have saved your pregnancy. Sometimes I think that the RE's should give their PCOS patients progesterone in the 2ww to prevent this from happening. Again, i'm sorry and i'm praying that the IVF cycle works for you.

I just wanted to say that I always do progesterone suppositories in the 2ww, and when this happened in my cycle, it was no help.

good thought
but she had a chemical once before and her progesterone numbers were fine - so, we didn't even factor that in
sorry to be blunt, but woulda, coulda, shoulda is a moot point now - it's on to the next step

I see, for some reason I thought that it definitely works and you get better results in your 2ww, but I can see now that this is not the case. Thanks.

Im sorry Guys....
Are they sure that IVF is the way to go? It seems like your issue is staying PG not getting PG and Im not sure how IVF will help that? Im sure you plan to bring that up at the consult.
Im sorry your going through this.

Hi Donna, Chu seems to feel that the IVF will work best for me. I had asked her about my uterun lining and possibly the eggs that are getting fertilized are unhealthy. She said that my egg quality is good because its based on how old you are (didnt even know that) and my uterun lining was excellent.
She did mention that she wants to get to the bottom of why I am having these chemical pregnancies, so I dont know what tests they can do to determine this.

I was having the same issue and they ran something called a "recurrent pregnancy loss panel" on me.
(Not sure if that's just what my RE called it, or if it's the common name.)
Nothing came of the test - all the results were normal - but I felt better moving to IVF once I knew that maintaining the pregnancy wasn't the problem
I would have hated to go through the expense and emotional costs of IVF just to find out I couldn't maintain a pregnancy. I needed that piece of mind before I moved on.
Wishing you guys a ton of luck.

Re: An update on me...
I am sorry the IUI didn't work -- or shall I say stick.
I do hope IVF is the answer for you guys.
Not to burst any bubbles at ALL, but Donna and Lauren both have some very valid points here -- you ARE getting pg, but you aren't able to keep it. IVF doesn't change that, and honestly I would ask to do more tests before taking that big step. It would be terrible to get pg with IVF and then lose it - which God willing doesn't happen. But the more you know, the more you can plan for.
I only miscarried once but my RE had me do a whole battery of immunological testing. Turned out I have MTHFR -which may or may not have been the reason I miscarried. But they put me on Lovenox in order to prevent the clotting, and THAT IVF was the one that worked...
I wish you success in whatever you decide to do, we are all here for support.

I have been told by multiple dr's that progesterone levels can be a sign of a failing pregnancy rather than the solution(did that make sense) That being said-this has been an issue that I have dealt with. My current Dr believes that this progesterone issue happens in the very beginning of my cycle. I may go on estrogen if my levels are not adequate next cycle which will (with Clomid) create bigger stronger follies and ovulation. For you guys I *think* they will be giving you lots of supplemental hormones(progesterone etc.) so hopefully this will be it for you! Good luck.

Well, I can say that she doesn't know that your egg quality is good just based on your age. I had mentioned this to Don, and I don't know if it will apply for you. I'm 33, so I'm not that old. And I've had chemicals before. I have what's called a balanced translocation, and because of this I'm having PGD when I do IVF, just to ensure the quality of my eggs are okay.
PGD is where they test the eggs genetically before they implant you.
A balanced translocation is where two of the chromosomes, in my case 17 and 19 "swap" places without losing any genetic material. Now, because this can occur in my eggs, there is a greater chance of me producing genetically imbalanced eggs. In order to alleviate this problem, they are going to test the eggs to make sure the chromosomes are either normal, or balanced tranlocations for implants. The only way to know that you or Don don't have any genetic disorders that could affect an embryo is to be tested. The tests are VERY costly, as is PGD. But I say its totally worth it. I'm wondering if the genetic tests would be covered for you, but I'm not entirely sure. Insurance defintely doesn't cover PGD at all. I know it sounds like a lot of info, and if you ever have questions at all, feel free to ask. I hope that IVF is the answer for you guys. As far as the low progesterone, I think your progesterone dropped because the embryo just wasn't viable and your body was not going to implant it. HTH, and best of luck to you guys.
Edited for horrendously spelling a word wrong.

I also agree with Kara and have heard that Dr. Chu is not a proponent of immunological testing....

Bloodwork. Just lots of bloodwork.
I think they took 14 vials from me that day.

thanks all
we're not stupid
we're not gonna spend thousands of dollars and commit all of this time, until we ask the questions and do the tests to find out why the chemicals keep happening.
no one is telling us anything we didn't already think of - we have a list of questions three pages long.
I know this can be frustrating but everyone is just trying to help. Maybe someone will add a valid question that you can add to your list.
