and I'm now carrying luggage
yep that's right...the first session w/my trainer, I walked around like a cowboy for three days...this is my THIRD session with him, and I'm walking around like I'm carrying luggage....I guess I'll just start "getting used to this".
- can't go down stairs - actually contemplated throwing myself down 17 steps to answer the postman, and then worm my way to the door
- can't stretch my arms out completely straight - try reaching for anything - especially reaching to the back of the headseat to park the car or go in reverse
- my sides hurt (something called my lats? yeah, didn't know I had anything there b/c my love handles keep them warm) - and I got hiccups...HICCUPS! I hurt every single time...and then I sneezed - yeah, saw STARS...and little birdies too.
- bathroom - yeah, not going there, but it's interesting (envision, wide-stance and throwing myself back)
- shower - no comment; but I imagined falling out of the tub and hubby finding me hours later with the dog licking my face.
SO...Ladies - I just want to THANK YOU ( ) for giving my out-of-shape self the "heads up" that this was going to happen.
But really, through all this, I'm still not discouraged and went to the gym today and did 25 minutes on the elliptical...I'm alive.

Re: and I'm now carrying luggage
The pain is temporary!! You'll definatly be sore for using muscles you haven't used.
I know its tough...but keep doing what you're doing. Try not to sit down too much and walk around to stretch your legs. Going on the elliptical was a great idea. If you sit around too long your muscles will just tense up. You need to keep them moving! Think about after a long race (for example a half marathon or marathon) you shouldn't sit down right away but keep moving. Same is with the muscles- it actually will help for you to keep using and moving them. So if your legs hurt- go for a walk. After a few minutes you'll actually be walking more normal!
Good luck and keep it up!

To help with the soreness try upping your water intake.....and I mean upping it. Your muscles are releasing acids and the water helps to flush it out.

Thank you so much - that makes a load of sense, and I never thought about it!

Re: and I'm now carrying luggage
I have to say...I've seen your extreme determintion and dedication when you post on FB and it gave me a push to get back in the gym myself. I started Monday and I can barely walk today but I'm going again later to do some cardio. I'm in pain but I will admit...it feels so good!
Keep up the good work!!
Ps...I'am pettrified to get a trainer. I'd probably run out crying.

Thank you so much for that love - that means a lot!!!!!! So happy I've inspired you, and I know you can do it!
I have to say, having a personal trainer has been the best investment. Prior to having a PT, I would literally just sit on the cardio machines (bike/elliptical/treadmill) and go to classes b/c I was super intimidated by the weight section - free + machines.
My PT has helped me get over those fears and is teaching me how to use everything beneficial to my ultimate goal(s) and now I rock those machines!
He's never made me cry - and I absolutely LOVE it...even if I'm in "good" pain the next day or two.

Oh the day he makes you cry will be the day that you REALLY love it
The pain sucks in the beginning but then it's something you will actually start wanting to feel. Or maybe it's just me.
Keep it up!!! You are doing great!!! Pushing yourself past the pain is the only way you are going to breakthrough and change!
