She was a sick woman..many people can be blamed for the tragedy..
I don't blame him entirely but he definitely contributed to her problems more than help her, imo.

why wouldn't you stand by your wife? He married her? He believed that this was primarily the fault of the doctor who did not help her...
WHY abandon her ?
She killed his children!!!! What possible life can they have after that???
SHE IS SICK....and he KNEW that for YEARS and stayed with her, actually had MORE children with her. He also stood by her during her enitre trial..blaming the "system"
why not stand by your beliefs?
ahhhhhhhhh i will agree to dsagree on this..

What do you or anyone think he could he have done differently?? It was her and her family that pushed for him to buy them a house..he had to work to keep that house and take care of a wife and five kids. He arranged for her to have help at the house. What more could he have done? He did things based on what his wife said..she was fine..and what doctors said..she was fine. What more could the man have done??

Re: Andrea Yates DH
actually i think it was him who wanted to get that bus home...whatever you want to call it
ETA...Rusty accepted work in Florida in 1996 and the family moved into a 38-foot travel trailer in Seminole, FL While in Florida, Andrea got pregnant, but miscarried. In 1997 they returned to Houston and lived in their trailer because Rusty wanted to "live light." The next year. Rusty decided to purchase a 350-square-foot, renovated bus
ALSO
Once home, Andrea did not take the medication and as a result she began to self mutilate and refused to feed her children because she felt they were eating too much. She thought there were video cameras in the ceilings and said that the characters on television were talking to her and the children. She told Rusty about the hallucinations, yet neither of them informed Andrea's psychiatrist, Dr. Starbranch. On July 20, Andrea put a knife to her neck and begged her husband to let her die.

Re: Andrea Yates DH
My understanding of the case is that he didn't believe in birth control...that regardless of her need to be on anti-depressant's, they got pregnant anyway.
If my husband was sick and I wanted to do something that required him to be off his meds just so I could get what I wanted, I would consider myself selfish (amongst other things ). In other words, this man should have either bagged it or kept it in his pants if he didn't want to properly deal with the consequences. Imo.
The Dr's should be held accontable as well. I don't know what philosophy they prescribe to but it didn't seem like they operated in the best interest of their patient but rather in the interest of the husband. Again, jmo based on what I've read about the case.
ETA: and the whole bus thing to "live light" is beyond absurd.

Re: Andrea Yates DH
The bottom line is you don't leave your children alone with someone who is in & out of mental hospitals.
She should be guilty by reason of insanity & spend the rest of her days in a mental hospital
He should be brought up on charges - at the very least neglect to 2nd degree murder. Unintentional murder, yet it happened due to his actions or inactions.

The rest of that article stated after she put the knife to her neck, she was checked into a hospital..given treatment and immediately showed a huge improvement. After leaving the hospital is when they bought the home and she was doing great..totally improved and was back to her old ways of running, swimming..things she did when they first met and was "normal".

I definitely read what I wrote...I happen think he was just as wrong as she was - I'll take it further by saying that I think that while it wasn't his hands that killed his kids, he helped kill them.
He enabled her condition rather than help it. He left his 5 children home alone with a woman who was medically unstable - a woman who tried to take her own life. On that alone, he should be haunted. That's jmo.

yup but i do believe that days before hand there was a BIG change in her behavior one to which with her history a DH should be VERY CONCERNED...

i guess she should have the same haunting vision since she didnt get there soon enough
ETS- You're obvisouly entitled to your opinion about his role in this . But, i just find your words completely Nauseating.

What should he have done???? Stayed home every day and held her hand?? I am sure he never in his wildest dreams would have thought she would be capable of doing this. She and her doctors said she was fine. What was he supposed to do???

I didn't skip over anything - I actually followed this case and have formed my *own* opinion on it and that clearly isn't yours I'm sure the mother is haunted - she probably feels like she could have (or should have) done more. But she wasn't married to Andrea nor did she father those kids. It was his responsibility as a parent to protect them and IMO, he fell short.
Sorry if it made you nauseous to read...I actually found the entire case unsettling, thus my rather strong opinion on it.

Honestly, if my husband was this unstable he still wouldn't be allowed to be with our kids alone. I'm sure he never imagined this in a million years, but he had a responsiblity to ensure the safety of his children. I think both of them have been punished more than anything a court or judge could dole out.
I love my husband but would never be able to forgive this - whether he was mentally unstable or not.

Thats what I am saying though..according to her doctors she was stablized..obviously she wasn't but she fooled a lot of people.
Same here too...I would never be able to forgive what was done and remain married to the person who did it.
