You don't want to know  ... but we live in FL and bought a foreclosure here last year. Our mortgage and taxes are a little over $1k and insurance, water, cable, outside maintenance, gate (gated community), pool, gym is all included in our monthly HOA fee of $300.

But seriously, I understand how important it is to be near family. I am from VA and my entire family lives here. I lived on LI for 3.5 years with NO family and it was hard

paid 254,900
pay 1750 a month.

We're in the lower ranges, but we bought over 8 years ago and put down a huge downpayment. We only have a 15-year mortgage too, so we're 1/2 to owning the home! We're in north Nassau.

About $2450 including taxes/insurance (no PMI) for 4 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms in Carle Place. Slightly less than a 1/4 acre plot.

ours is about $1800.. and thats with paying a little extra every month.
we bought our house from my ILs. They had paid it off and had no mortgage left on it, so we put the house in our name and pay them our "mortgage" every month. They gave us a good interest rate.
its not my ideal house, but its got plenty of space, in a good neighborhood and it keeps us from being "house poor" so i can't complain
we pay taxes seperately though- about $8500 a year...

if we get the house in florida ours will hopefully be around 1,200-1,500 a month including insurance, taxes, hoa and pmi....our GFE says $1,282 but thats just an estimate, it could be more or less depending on our interest rate and how much our homeowners insurance actually costs....

2 car garage
lake view on a little less than 1/4 acre
i am praying we get 
i dont know how people do it up here with 2,000-3,000 mortgages! DH says we could do it too but it would make me nuts!

wow! it must be so nice to lower your payments like that!
how do you like the new area vs NY? that is the ONE thing i am nervous about giving up - but the area we are looking seems really nice so i am sure i can get used to the sunshine
